## Admissions

M.Tech. Clinical Engineering is a two-year interinstitutional programme coordinated by IIT Madras Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering. Engineering study, clinical applications and project work follow its approved curriculum; confirm partner training locations in the offer.

Regular 2026 GATE/IIT graduate entry is described below. The exact degree and accepted GATE paper must both fit the programme; sponsored and international admission have separate conditions.

- Hold a recognised engineering/technology/architecture degree, four-year BS/BSc, or eligible science master’s/equivalent qualification in the accepted subject group below.
- Eligible qualifying subjects are the listed engineering/technology branches, including Biomedical, engineering disciplines and the matrix’s other-engineering category; GATE paper choices vary with the degree group.
- Biomedical degrees: GATE AE/BM/BT/CE/CS/DA/EC/EE/IN/ME. AE/CE/CS/DA/EC/EE/IN/ME degrees additionally accept CH/MN/MT.
- BT/BI/CH/EP/MM degrees accept AE/BM/BT/CE/CH/CS/DA/EC/EE/GE/IN/ME/MN/MT/XE. Other listed engineering subjects accept that group without BT.
- The IIT B.Tech. graduate route with CGPA≥8/10 may apply without GATE, subject to the department’s review.
- Other-discipline, distance/correspondence or recognised professional-membership applicants need curriculum review and any suitability assessment specified for the route.

Steps:

1. Confirm the exact degree-and-GATE combination, register separately with COAP, then submit the IIT Madras programme application. COAP is an offer-acceptance portal, not the application.
2. Upload academic records, scorecard and relevant certificates; applicants using the IIT graduate exemption follow the department’s review route.
3. Review the COAP/institutional offer and complete admission payment, original-document verification and the cohort’s joining requirements.

- Document: Qualifying degree/provisional certificate and complete marksheets
- Document: Required entrance-examination result or scorecard and applicable degree-equivalence evidence
- Application document: Identity/nationality document and programme offer/allotment letter
- Application document: Applicable category, disability or income certificates
- Application document: Passport and visa documents where required for the admitted foreign-national route
The published 2026 new-PG schedule lists classes from 27 July, after 20–21 July reporting and 22 July orientation. Confirm Clinical Engineering’s partner-location and reporting arrangements in the offer; future cohorts require a fresh notice.

## Teaching phases

- Two-year interinstitutional programme (English): The 2026 brochure identifies Clinical Engineering as a multi-institutional programme. Confirm the teaching, clinical-training and project sites, partner-semester arrangements and reporting instructions in the written offer.
