## Admissions

M.Tech. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is a two-year residential engineering master’s at IIT Madras. Core and elective courses are combined with project work in the named discipline. Programme-specific qualifying subjects and GATE papers apply.

Regular 2026 GATE/IIT graduate entry is described below. The exact degree and accepted GATE paper must both fit the programme; sponsored and international admission have separate conditions.

- Hold a recognised engineering/technology/architecture degree, four-year BS/BSc, or eligible science master’s/equivalent qualification in the accepted subject group below.
- Eligible subjects: Metallurgical/Materials Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Ceramics; Mechanical Engineering; Manufacturing Engineering; master’s Materials Science; Production and Industrial Engineering.
- Also eligible: Production Engineering; master’s Nanotechnology.
- Metallurgical/Materials Engineering degrees: GATE MT/XE. Other listed eligible degrees: GATE CH/ME/MT/PI/XE.
