## Admissions

Choose the exact programme and funding category, confirm whether its cohort will run, and obtain current written admission instructions from CUST’s official office.

## Why students choose it

- One English bachelor’s and four English master’s routes have exact current general-route durations.
- The Software Engineering English-route profile proves a Bachelor of Engineering award.
- The complete inventory distinguishes general, CSC, provincial and historical programme observations.

## Things to consider

- The latest verified 2026 general and scholarship deadlines have passed.
- English UG needs at least 20 students; each general English master’s class needs at least 10.
- Same-edition TOEFL and master’s GPA discrepancies require written clarification.

## Best fit for

- Applicants comparing the exact English Software Engineering bachelor’s degree.
- Bachelor’s graduates considering the four documented two-year general English master’s routes.
- Applicants prepared to confirm cohort operation, campus, thresholds and funding before committing.

## Campus and city

CUST’s documented international residence is at South Campus, on floors 9–12 of Huayuan Hotel. The official guide describes nearby banks, hospitals, shops and transport connections, alongside shared kitchens and student activity facilities. Confirm the actual teaching campus for the chosen programme; the residence location does not prove universal teaching allocation. The current CSC supervisor catalogue separately identifies some Zhongshan and external Chongqing affiliations, which are kept distinct in the private inventory.

Changchun is the university’s home city in Jilin Province. The university’s international office and documented residence are at 7186 Weixing Road. Its brochure describes tram and bus access to the railway station and central commercial areas, with banks, hospitals, shops and other daily services nearby. Ask admissions about the exact teaching and registration sites before arranging accommodation or travel; no unverified commute time or living-cost guarantee is supplied.

CUST grew from an optics and precision-mechanics institution. Its official introduction describes research across optical instruments, lasers, detection, communications, advanced manufacturing, computing and functional materials. These are institutional areas, not a promise that every international student can enter every laboratory. The English Software Engineering native profile awards a Bachelor of Engineering and discusses software development/testing, networks, embedded systems, digital media and big-data processing. The standing Mechanical Engineering profile covers manufacturing, mechanical design, mechatronics, vehicle engineering, bionics and micro-electromechanical systems. Computer Application Technology is supported by an older Computer Applied Technology profile covering imaging, virtual reality, computer vision and software/network applications. The MBA profile describes management study and a dissertation/case report. Current Information and Communication Engineering supervision spans communications and signal-related research. Exact modules, projects, supervisor availability and practice arrangements must be confirmed for the admitted general English cohort. No paid placement, partner-company access or employment outcome is guaranteed.

## Hostel, food and safety

The guide describes international residence on floors 9–12 of Huayuan Hotel, South Campus: single/double options, private bathroom/toilet, shared floor kitchens, hot water, laundry, Wi-Fi and activity spaces. The quoted general-route double-room price is CNY 3,000 per semester per bed. Programmes longer than one year require tuition and housing paid annually under the published rule. Confirm room availability, utilities, deposits, payment/refund terms and any accessibility needs; no single-room price is verified. General English master’s scholarship recipients are in principle required to live in university housing.

The residence description includes a kitchen on each floor and nearby shopping, but does not verify a meal plan, dietary certification or individual allergy service. Confirm kitchen access, cooking rules, dining options and specific dietary needs with the international student office. Food and personal costs are separate from the tuition and room quotes.

The guide describes 24-hour residence surveillance and requires medical and non-criminal records valid six months. Annual insurance is listed at CNY 800. Keep the actual admission and visa documentation current, disclose past China study and verify payment instructions through the official office. No safety guarantee is inferred.

The current general guide names Chi Ren and Liu Senhua, with admission-sie@cust.edu.cn and +86 431 85583294 / +86 431 85583292. Use your own email and monitor official notifications. Electronic admission and visa-study forms arrive by email, with JW202/DQ documents downloaded through the provided link. Confirm the applicable next-cohort process directly.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which English programmes are verified?

The current autumn 2026 guide lists four-year Software Engineering and two-year Mechanical Engineering, MBA, Computer Application Technology, and Information and Communication Engineering. The complete inventory also records current CSC supervisor subjects and older standing programmes; additional rows with unverified exact duration or qualifications remain held.

### Is the next intake open?

The verified application deadline was 30 June 2026, with classes starting 28 August 2026. Those dates are historical. Ask the official admissions office for the next published calendar; no open intake is promised.

### Can a class be cancelled for low numbers?

The brochure sets a minimum of 20 students for English Software Engineering and 10 for each of the four English master’s classes. Confirm whether the class will run, how this affects payments and what options apply before committing.

### What English scores are needed?

The general guide agrees on IELTS 5.5, Duolingo 95 or EF SET 60 for non-native English applicants. Its Chinese TOEFL threshold is 67 and English threshold 72. The UG Chinese materials also use EF SET B2 wording. The applicable TOEFL/EF SET interpretation needs written clarification; no conflicting threshold is silently selected. CSC has separate IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 80 or prior English-instruction evidence.

### What academic results and age limits apply?

General English UG requires a high-school qualification and age under 30. General master’s admission requires a bachelor’s degree and age under 35. The Chinese general master’s version states 65% or CGPA 2.5/4, while English states 2.6/4; the disputed threshold is held. Scholarship grade requirements are additional, not substitutes.

### Does Software Engineering require CSCA?

Yes. The current guide specifies Mathematics and Physics. Where a score report is not yet available, it allows proof of exam registration. Applicants under 18 additionally need legal guardian documents for China.

### What are the tuition and housing costs?

Dated autumn 2026 tuition is CNY 20,000 per year for English UG and CNY 22,000 for the four general English masters. Double-room accommodation is CNY 3,000 per semester per bed; application fee CNY 400, admission deposit CNY 3,000 and annual insurance CNY 800 are separate. These are indicative historical quotes, not confirmed later-cohort prices.

### How does the undergraduate scholarship work?

The first-year English UG scholarship reduces tuition by 30%, leaving CNY 14,000. Years two to four have 100%, 50% or 30% reductions for prior average marks of at least 85, 75 or 65 respectively, subject to attendance above 85%, no retake/repeat and no violations. Continued support is conditional.

### How does the general English master’s scholarship work?

Applicants with at least 70% or CGPA 2.8/4 may compete for 10 partial-scholarship places per major. First-year tuition reduction is 50%; second-year reduction is 100% if attendance exceeds 85%, no subject is failed and there are no violations. Selection is competitive and first come until full; recipients are in principle required to live on campus. Applicants below scholarship criteria must use the self-paid category.

### Are CSC and Jilin scholarships the same route?

No. The 2026 CSC scheme uses Type B code 10186 and a separate supervisor catalogue, with its own language, supervision and document rules; its 28 February deadline is historical. The provincial scheme had seven places, a 29 May–20 June 2026 application window, high GPA requirements, conditional fee/housing coverage and CNY 1,700 monthly allowance. Additional provincial subjects such as Biomedical Engineering are held where exact duration/instruction are unconfirmed.

### Where will I live and study?

The brochure places international residence on floors 9–12 of Huayuan Hotel at South Campus. It describes single/double options, bathrooms, floor kitchens, laundry, hot water, Wi-Fi, activity facilities and 24-hour surveillance. The priced route is a double bed; availability and actual teaching location require confirmation. Separate external-location CSC supervision is not treated as the same campus.

### What financial and application documents are required?

The general routes require a bank balance of at least CNY 50,000 in the applicant’s or guardian’s account, documented within three months, plus medical and non-criminal records valid six months. Masters also need a 500-word Chinese/English plan and two professor recommendations. Follow the exact translation, passport, visa and minor-guardian requirements.

### Which official office should I contact?

Use admission-sie@cust.edu.cn. The current brochure names Chi Ren at +86 431 85583294 and Liu Senhua at +86 431 85583292, School of International Education, 7186 Weixing Road, Changchun. These are admissions contacts; no partnership-signing authority or existing agency authorisation is asserted.
