## Admissions

International undergraduate applicants use the university’s international admissions system; master’s applicants use the programme-specific postgraduate route. Academic thresholds, language evidence, fees and selection procedures differ by programme.

## Why students choose it

- English-taught AI and computing options at undergraduate and master’s level.
- Residential colleges alongside academic schools and general education.
- Named AI specialisations spanning systems, robotics and sector applications.

## Things to consider

- The Shenzhen institution is distinct from the CUHK campus in Hong Kong.
- International undergraduate admission has specific citizenship and Chinese-heritage rules.
- Published master’s fees may be whole-course totals, provisional figures or older-cycle quotes.

## Best fit for

- Students seeking English-taught AI, computing and engineering study in mainland China.
- Applicants comparing quantitative business, science and interdisciplinary technology courses.
- Students comfortable with a residential-college environment and programme-specific competitive selection.

## Campus and city

The Longgang campus combines academic schools with a residential-college system. Students join a college community alongside their academic programme. Facilities include teaching and laboratory buildings, libraries, sports spaces and a student centre.

The university is on Longxiang Boulevard in Longgang District, Shenzhen. Student activities can extend to the nearby Shenzhen Universiade Center, while the wider city has public libraries, theatres and museums. The Longgang location matters when planning trips to Futian, Nanshan and other parts of Shenzhen.

Computing and engineering programmes connect academic study with applied work: Communications Engineering includes research projects across semesters, while Computer and Information Engineering lists capstone and industrial-practice modules. The MSc AI offers concentrations such as Agentic AI, AI Infrastructure and Embodied AI and Robotics. Internship and job opportunities involve selection; the university does not arrange guaranteed internships or employment for MSc AI students.

## Hostel, food and safety

For 2027 international undergraduate entry, on-campus accommodation is CNY 2,400 per academic year. Most rooms in several residential colleges are shared by four students and include beds, desks, storage, air-conditioning and a fan. Hostel blocks have self-service laundry; facilities vary by college. Postgraduate accommodation arrangements require separate confirmation.

The campus facilities directory includes dining halls and commercial services. Some residential colleges have shared kitchens. Food and personal spending are separate from tuition and accommodation; the 2027 international undergraduate budget estimates around CNY 2,000 per month for personal living expenses.

The university provides medical services and psychological counselling through its student-support services. Health and insurance arrangements form part of enrolment planning; international undergraduates are charged CNY 800 per academic year for medical insurance in the 2027 budget.

International student services, language-learning support and career planning are available. The residential colleges add community activities to academic study. Students Traffic can help compare programme requirements, prepare a shortlist and organize the application documents.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is this the same campus as CUHK in Hong Kong?

CUHK-Shenzhen is located in mainland China, in Shenzhen’s Longgang District. It is distinct from the CUHK campus in Hong Kong, while its graduates receive degree certificates from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Apply through the route for the Shenzhen programme you choose.

### Is CUHK-Shenzhen a public or private university?

The university describes itself as a joint-venture institution. It was established with China Ministry of Education approval in 2014 through cooperation between Shenzhen University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

### Can international students study AI at undergraduate level?

The School of Artificial Intelligence offers a four-year Bachelor of Engineering programme in AI. International applicants need an accepted school qualification, the published engineering subject requirements and the required English evidence. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer.

### Which English-taught AI master’s routes are available?

The MSc in Artificial Intelligence offers technical and application-oriented concentrations, including Agentic AI, AI Infrastructure and Embodied AI and Robotics. AI for Science is a separate MSc programme. Concentrations within one degree are not separate admissions awards.

### How much is undergraduate tuition?

For 2027 international undergraduate entry, tuition is CNY 162,000 per academic year. The published budget also lists CNY 2,400 for on-campus accommodation and CNY 800 for medical insurance, alongside other charges and personal living costs.

### Are the master’s fees annual or total-course charges?

Many master’s programmes quote a fee for the complete programme, rather than one year. For example, the MSc AI lists RMB 328,000 for the whole programme. Historical or provisional amounts carry separate caveats; they are not converted into an invented annual tuition figure.

### What English level is required for undergraduate admission?

For 2027 undergraduate entry, examples include IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 80/120, with accepted alternatives. Grade 12 English at 80% under an Indian central or state board is among the listed alternatives. The undergraduate rules differ from master’s requirements.

### What are the typical master’s entry requirements?

Most taught master’s routes require a recognised bachelor’s degree, normally at least Second Class honours or an average B, and accepted English evidence. IELTS Academic 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 79/120 are common examples. Programme-specific preparation, interviews and exceptions still apply.

### How do international students apply?

Undergraduate applicants use the International Undergraduate Admissions system and upload school qualifications, English evidence and supporting documents. Master’s applications go through the postgraduate system and the chosen programme’s document and referee process. Students Traffic can help organize the application plan.

### Are Chinese-language skills compulsory?

English is the main teaching language for the courses shown here, with any specific course exceptions stated on the programme. Undergraduates also take Chinese-language coursework for the degree. Clinical Medicine follows a separate route with an HSK requirement and local-hospital language considerations.

### What accommodation is available?

Undergraduates join residential colleges, with most rooms in several colleges shared by four students. Rooms include study furniture and air-conditioning, while campus logistics blocks provide self-service laundry. Postgraduate housing eligibility and cost should be planned separately from the undergraduate accommodation fee.

### Does studying AI guarantee an internship or job?

No. The MSc AI programme provides resources and opportunities, but does not arrange guaranteed internships or full-time work. Projects and internships may use competitive selection, so assess the curriculum and your preparation rather than assuming a placement outcome.

### Are scholarships automatic or guaranteed?

The university and individual master’s programmes publish merit-based funding opportunities. Eligibility, selection and award conditions differ by programme and intake, and admission does not guarantee funding. Compare the full study budget before relying on a scholarship.
