## Campus and city

DMU’s international education centre is at 1 Linghai Road in Dalian. The university’s maritime identity appears in research, simulation and practical learning: the official Navigation master profile describes ship-handling simulation and electronic chart-navigation work. Programme colleges cover marine engineering, transport, computing, environment, law and management. The international education centre handles degree and non-degree study and publishes separate applicant and student guidance. Confirm the exact college and teaching location in the offer; the programme table does not identify a particular classroom building for each native master.

Dalian is the university’s teaching city in Liaoning Province. Its maritime setting is directly relevant to the published research options: ship automation, marine power, navigation information, logistics, pollution prevention and maritime law feature across the English master portfolio. Research directions describe academic possibilities; they do not guarantee a shipboard placement or employment. Native DMU master housing has several published room categories with different daily, semester and annual bases. The separate WMU Dalian programme estimates a minimum of around CNY 60,000 for living expenses across its whole 14-month period, including accommodation, meals, books and materials. That estimate is not an annual budget for every DMU student.

The English master table gives specific research directions rather than a single generic practical-training promise. Traffic Information Engineering and Control includes ship-motion control and navigation simulation; Marine Engineering includes green energy and intelligent manufacturing; computing and AI cover security, machine learning and unmanned systems. Applicants should identify the intended direction in the research plan so the college can assign supervision. WMU’s separate Maritime Affairs programme combines foundation and specialised coursework with a dissertation. ## Hostel, food and safety

The 2027 native master brochure lists Yihua apartments. Building I standard single rooms are CNY 8,400 per academic year; superior singles CNY 12,000 and premium singles CNY 18,000. Building II singles are CNY 14,000, superior singles CNY 16,000 and double rooms CNY 9,000 per person per academic year. Semester and short-stay rates have separate bases. Room allocation and availability require confirmation. CSC funding conditionally provides free on-campus accommodation; the WMU joint programme has separate cost planning. Do not assume a scholarship creates a cash housing allowance or transfers a native-master room rate to WMU.

The reviewed native-master fee guidance does not establish a meal-plan price or a guaranteed vegetarian, halal or allergy-aware facility. Ask the international education centre about current food arrangements for a specific dietary need. WMU’s separate 14-month programme estimates whole-period living costs including food; it is not a universal DMU annual meal quote.

DMU requires sufficient medical insurance throughout study, covering accidental injury, outpatient, emergency and hospital care. Failure to provide insurance documents can prevent registration. The native master brochure quotes CNY 800 per year and says the centre assists with purchasing mainland-China comprehensive cover. The current 2027 international undergraduate catalogue is Chinese, requires HSK 4 or the university’s equivalent test with Agreement Probation, and lists CSCA requirements. The 2027 table’s legend explicitly gives two academic years for starred English majors, while the Chinese versions and unstarred subjects last three years. A table cell showing 2/3 does not make the English duration three years. Confirm the final study plan in the offer.

### What are the standard qualification and English requirements?

Standard master applicants need a valid bachelor’s degree, good physical and mental health and age 18–40. English evidence can be recognised IELTS/TOEFL-type proof or an English-medium undergraduate certificate, with a stated exemption for official-English-language applicants. Those without certificates must pass DMU’s equivalent English test. The standard guide does not state a numeric test minimum.

### What research plan and recommendations are needed?

The standard plan must exceed 1,000 Chinese characters or English words and clearly state the intended research direction, academic and work background, research, goals and plans. Two professor or associate-professor recommendations are listed. ### Is the WMU joint MSc a regular DMU native master?

It is a separate WMU Master of Science in Maritime Affairs, specialising in Maritime Safety and Environmental Management, delivered in Dalian with DMU. The Academic Handbook Entry 2027 specifies 14 months and 80 credits, including a 20-credit dissertation. Its entry, grading and quality-assurance rules are WMU’s; native DMU tuition and CSC conditions are not automatically transferred.

### Who can apply for the WMU Dalian programme and what does it cost?

WMU seeks applicants established in maritime careers, with a relevant bachelor’s degree and/or the highest unrestricted master-mariner or chief-engineer competency certificate. English guidelines include IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80+ on the 0–120 scale or 4–6 on the new scale; the board evaluates other permitted evidence. The 2027 handbook expects CNY 115,000 tuition for the whole programme and at least around CNY 60,000 whole-period living costs, subject to confirmation.
