## Admissions

Choose the exact Hainan University degree and application route before preparing records. Regular admissions and scholarship programmes have different age limits, deadlines and documentation. The university controls academic assessment and admission decisions.

## Why students choose it

- Named English degree routes across agriculture, management, engineering, science and law.
- Programme-specific campus information supports practical study planning.
- HNU–ASU joint routes offer conditional awards from both universities without compulsory US study.

## Things to consider

- English degree delivery does not remove Chinese-course, CSCA Chinese-paper or graduation-language requirements.
- Joint programme tariffs differ from ordinary degree categories; confirm the international fee before accepting an offer.
- Scholarship age limits, nationality/recommendation conditions and deadlines differ from ordinary admissions.

## Best fit for

- Students who can meet exact English and programme-specific entry requirements.
- Applicants comparing tropical agriculture, science, computing, law or management research fields.
- Students ready to plan around the specific teaching campus and Chinese-language requirements.

## Campus and city

Programme location matters here. Agronomy is at Danzhou; Business Economics and the HNU–ASU joint routes are at Guanlanhu. Most listed science and law masters are at Haidian, while Biomedical Engineering is at Yazhou. Crop Science can involve Danzhou or Yazhou according to school, and Food Processing/Safety and Food Science/Engineering use the Guanlanhu campus’s Chengxi teaching site. Confirm the assigned school, teaching site and accommodation before arranging travel.

Hainan University’s main international admissions office is in Haikou, on Renmin Avenue in Meilan District. The university also has teaching locations in Danzhou and Sanya. These are separate cities and campus assignments, so the admissions office address does not establish where a degree is taught or where a student will live. Match the programme’s named campus and the final registration instructions before choosing accommodation or transport.

English routes cover laboratory and research disciplines, agricultural study and management fields. Crop Science is offered through the Tropical Agriculture and Forestry school and the Nanfan school, with different campuses. HAIC joint students access resources from both Hainan University and Arizona State University, and eligible students may choose optional US study at additional cost. Studying in the United States is not a compulsory condition of earning the joint awards. No paid placement, employment or professional licence is guaranteed.

## Hostel, food and safety

Accommodation charges and room arrangements vary by campus. HAIC’s 2026 reference schedule describes four-person rooms at CNY 1,450 per academic year; this is not a university-wide room guarantee or a confirmed international allocation. Obtain the assigned campus, available room type, final tariff and utility arrangements before booking travel.

The general fee guidance estimates meals at about CNY 1,500 per month for planning only. Actual spending depends on individual choices and location. Confirm specific dietary needs, food availability and any kitchen access at the assigned campus; no specialised-meal guarantee is established.

Applications require a complete health examination and police certificate, normally valid for six months. Comprehensive insurance is charged at CNY 800 per year or CNY 400 per semester. Confirm examination, insurance and registration instructions directly before arrival.

The International Students Office handles international admissions, residence-related procedures, scholarships and student administration. Students Traffic can help compare public programme details and prepare questions about campus, fees and eligibility. Applicants submit through the official university process.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which English undergraduate subjects can I consider?

Agronomy and Business Economics are offered in English, alongside the HNU–ASU joint routes in Hotel Management, Public Administration, Human Geography and Urban–Rural Planning, and E-Commerce. Business Economics also has a Chinese route; choose the intended delivery language in your application.

### Which master fields are available in English?

English routes include Business Administration, daily living-related disciplines, Crop Science, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Computer Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Law, Biology and Biotechnology and Engineering. Joint Public Administration and Tourism Management have separate award conditions. Chemistry is expressly included in the 2027 Type B scholarship call.

### How long are the degrees?

The English bachelor routes have four-year nominal study. Ordinary HNU masters, including international masters, have three-year nominal study. Maximum or minimum completion windows are different from the nominal duration. The two-year ASU-only autonomous master route is a separate award arrangement and is not substituted for the regular HNU joint master.

### Which campus will I attend?

Agronomy is at Danzhou; Business Economics and the joint programmes are at Guanlanhu. Biomedical Engineering is at Yazhou, and many science, computing and law masters are at Haidian. Crop Science campus depends on the school. daily living-related masters use Guanlanhu’s Chengxi teaching site. Confirm your programme and residence assignments in the offer.

### What English results are required?

IELTS 6.0 with no component below 6.0 is required, or the published TOEFL paper-based 560 / internet-based 78 threshold. Chinese and English threshold wording differs at the boundary, so confirm a boundary score before relying on it. Waivers depend on whether the regular, provincial or Type B route applies; do not assume an English-medium-school waiver.

### Which CSCA papers apply to English undergraduate study?

Agronomy requires Science Chinese, Mathematics and Chemistry. The English Business Economics route requires Mathematics. Hotel Management requires Humanities Chinese, Mathematics and Physics. The other joint undergraduate rows require Humanities Chinese and Mathematics. English programme delivery does not make every CSCA paper an English paper.

### Will I need Chinese for an English degree?

Yes. Chinese study and graduation proficiency requirements remain applicable. Joint undergraduate public courses use Chinese, while professional/core courses use English. The exact graduation standard must be confirmed for the degree and applicable regulations; an English teaching label does not establish a Chinese-free course or award.

### What age limits apply?

Regular undergraduate admission permits ages 18–45. Provincial scholarship applicants must be below 30 for bachelor study and below 35 for master study. The Type B master call differs between Chinese and English wording at age 35; applicants at that boundary should obtain confirmation. Do not apply one route’s age rule to another route.

### What fees should I budget for?

The ordinary international schedule gives annual undergraduate arts/science categories of CNY 18,400/20,700 and master categories of CNY 20,700/23,000. Confirm the programme category and final amount. Joint programmes have separate schedules and international charges require confirmation. The application charge is CNY 400 nonrefundable; insurance, housing and medical examinations are separate.

### What documents and financial evidence are needed?

Regular applications require academic certificates and transcripts, language results, passport records, health and police evidence, and a bank deposit of at least CNY 50,000 or equivalent. Undergraduates need two recommendations, including one from a high-school teacher. Master study plans exceed 1,000 words; Type B also requires two professor or associate-professor references. Additional identity, transfer or employment documents may apply.

### What are the 2027 deadlines?

Regular undergraduate applications close on 30 June 2027 for September entry. The provincial scholarship deadline is 1 May 2027; Type B closes on 28 February 2027, Beijing time. A new regular 2027 master deadline is not established. Scholarship registration is generally August–September, with the exact date in the admission offer.

### Are scholarships automatic?

No. LTU full scholarships require an eligible alliance institution’s official recommendation; sister-city awards require foreign-government nomination, and ASEAN awards are limited to ASEAN nationals. Other provincial categories and Type B have their own selection and annual-review conditions. Scholarship availability is not an assumed discount or guaranteed admission.

### What do the joint degrees award?

Qualifying joint undergraduates receive HNU graduation and bachelor certificates and an ASU bachelor award. The regular joint masters conditionally award HNU graduation/master certificates plus an ASU master award. Students must meet both universities’ requirements. Optional US study has separate charges. Veterinary admission separately does not establish a clinical licence or professional registration.
