## Admissions

Choose the exact current English subject and school, then confirm the actual cohort’s requirements, campus and application calendar with Hohai’s International School.

## Why students choose it

- The current English catalogue distinguishes 25 master’s subjects and their teaching schools.
- Water-resource and engineering subjects sit alongside science, business, sociology and Marxist theory.
- Five teaching schools have explicit Changzhou labels, supporting more precise campus comparison.

## Things to consider

- The 2027 English subject table does not itself state the next application deadline or start month.
- The standing guide’s fees and entry details are dated 2026/2027; confirm the actual next cohort’s final terms.
- English-taught graduate students must also meet the stated Chinese proficiency graduation requirement.

## Best fit for

- International bachelor’s graduates comparing the exact current English master’s subjects and research schools.
- Applicants willing to clarify the next cohort’s language evidence, campus and financial terms before accepting an offer.
- Students able to plan graduate research and meet the programme’s academic and Chinese proficiency graduation requirements.

## Campus and city

Hohai’s campuses span Nanjing and Changzhou. The current English master’s table explicitly marks five teaching schools Changzhou; other subject rows do not fix the study location. Obtain teaching, laboratory and residence allocations in the offer. The general brochure accommodates graduate students on campus according to the university’s overall layout, so the admissions office address or historic main-campus photograph does not identify every student’s daily setting.

Hohai’s International School is at 1 Xikang Road in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The university also has a Jiangning campus and a Changzhou campus. These are separate study and living locations: a Nanjing office address does not mean a programme expressly assigned to Changzhou is taught in central Nanjing. The university’s own prospectus describes Nanjing as Jiangsu’s capital in the Yangtze River Delta. Students should plan travel, accommodation and daily journeys around the campus in the final offer. No single commute, city living-cost estimate or off-campus housing allowance is applied to every route.

Hohai’s English master’s portfolio separates Hydrology and Water Resources, Hydraulic and Hydro-Power Engineering, and Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering by subject and school. Its broad water-engineering description covers hydrology, hydraulic structures, hydropower, coastal work and related planning and management. These distinctions let applicants compare a proposed research plan with the correct school. The university’s international energy discipline description places Renewable Energy Science and Engineering within the wider Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics field. The current catalogue keeps Renewable Energy in a Changzhou teaching school and Power/Thermophysics in the School of Electrical and Power Engineering. This subject relationship does not merge their separate university offerings. For all subjects, compare the current training plan, research direction, supervisor capacity and laboratory or practical arrangements. The general graduate guide requires the academic plan, examinations and thesis defence. No employer placement, paid internship, guaranteed industrial project or employment outcome is asserted from the catalogue alone.

## Hostel, food and safety

The 2026/2027 prospectus accommodates graduate students on campus according to the university’s layout. Facilities include a bed, desk, closet, chair, water heater, internet access, toilet and public laundry. Confirm the assigned building, room and accessibility. Published annual charges: Xikang Road single rooms CNY 9,600–24,000 depending on conditions; Jiangning single rooms CNY 12,000; Changzhou double rooms CNY 7,200 per bed. These dated native annual quotes do not guarantee availability or later prices. The university allocates the residence campus; tuition and accommodation are paid in RMB. Check the applicable refund terms before payment.

The general brochure contains individual student reflections about canteens and campus life. These do not establish a specific meal contract, dietary certification, allergy service or universal kitchen allocation. Ask the International School about dining at the assigned campus, any specific dietary or accessibility needs, and the costs to budget separately from tuition and accommodation.

The standing guide requires recent medical and non-criminal records and compulsory comprehensive insurance, quoted at CNY 800 per year. Uninsured international students cannot register under that guide. Follow the final admission, health, visa-document and registration instructions for the actual cohort and keep your application records accurate.

Hohai’s official contact list names Ms LI Junyu (Micky) and Ms LI Wanting (Lillian) for admission, using admission@hhu.edu.cn and +86 25 8378 7955. Student-service staff handle separate living and study matters. Keep control of your official application account and monitor email for document requests, assessments and admission instructions.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which English programmes are current?

Hohai’s 2027 international catalogue lists 25 English master’s subjects across 20 numbered schools. It includes distinct water-engineering fields, engineering, science, business, sociology and Marxist theory. Compare each exact title and school rather than assuming all have identical research directions.

### Are English undergraduate programmes currently verified?

The latest undergraduate catalogue lists Chinese-taught programmes. Older English undergraduate curricula remain archived, but current English undergraduate recruitment is not established by those plans or generic English-language wording. Confirm a named current route with admissions before relying on it.

### How long does a master’s degree take?

The standing general prospectus sets a three-year standard master’s duration, with a permitted study period of two to five years. Completing the academic plan, examinations and thesis defence is required. The exact academic degree follows the university’s award rules.

### Which campus will I attend?

The current English catalogue explicitly marks five teaching schools in Changzhou: Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Automation, Renewable Energy, and Materials Science and Engineering. Other rows do not assign a campus. Confirm teaching and housing in the offer.

### What academic and age conditions are published?

The standing 2026/2027 guide requires non-Chinese citizenship, good health, a bachelor’s degree and age under 35 for master’s applicants. It also requires a research plan and two professor/associate professor recommendations. Confirm the actual next cohort’s conditions with the university.

### What English or Chinese requirements apply?

Non-native English speakers provide relevant English qualification evidence such as IELTS or TOEFL. The general guide gives no numeric test minimum. It also states that English-taught graduate students must reach level 3 of the specified Chinese proficiency scales for graduation; English teaching does not remove that requirement.

### Is a current deadline confirmed?

The 2027 English programme table does not specify a next deadline or start month. The published general application period for the 2026/2027 cohort ended on 10 April 2026. Ask admissions for the next open round and its official checklist.

### What tuition and extra fees are published?

The 2026/2027 prospectus quotes CNY 32,000 per year for English master’s study, CNY 400 non-refundable application and compulsory insurance CNY 800 per year. These dated prices are not a final next-cohort quote. Tuition and accommodation are paid in RMB.

### How is accommodation priced and allocated?

The standing brochure quotes Xikang Road single rooms at CNY 9,600–24,000 per year depending on conditions, Jiangning single rooms at CNY 12,000 per year, and Changzhou double rooms at CNY 7,200 per year per bed. The university allocates the residence campus; confirm current availability and charges.

### What does the refund policy say?

The standing brochure permits a 70% tuition refund for withdrawal within two weeks of registration, with accommodation calculated accordingly. A hard-copy application and returned invoice are required. It gives no refund after two weeks or for expulsion for rule violations. Confirm the applicable cohort’s exact terms before paying.

### Are scholarships automatic?

No. The standing brochure separates scholarship routes. Chinese Government Type A goes through the local Chinese embassy/consulate; Hohai does not accept it directly. Type B requires both CSC and Hohai systems, agency 10294. Jiangsu’s scheme requires provincial-department recommendation for applicants from Belt and Road countries or friendly provinces/states/regions; the university does not accept direct applications. Hohai first class covers tuition, on-campus housing, insurance and a monthly stipend; second class tuition and housing; third class tuition. Annual review applies. Confirm current scheme rules; no award or stipend amount is guaranteed.

### How should an application be submitted?

Use Hohai’s official application system, keep control of your account and monitor the registered email. Follow the selected scheme’s separate instructions. The International School publishes a non-authorisation statement covering external admissions-related activities; obtain official information and submit through the university’s process.

### Who handles international admission enquiries?

The official contact list names Ms LI Junyu (Micky) and Ms LI Wanting (Lillian) for admissions, with shared admission@hhu.edu.cn and +86 25 8378 7955. The International School address is 1 Xikang Road, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210098. Student-service and complaints contacts have different roles.
