## Admissions

Compare the exact English route with its current admission notice. The official pages currently provide a 2026 CSC postgraduate guide and a 2025 self-funded guide; their deadlines have passed. Request the next intake’s conditions before submission, and prepare qualifications, language evidence and route-specific documents.

## Why students choose it

- Documented international English routes in business, computing and applied economics.
- A university setting linking Yuelu Academy heritage with modern academic facilities.
- Published application guides distinguish scholarship and self-funded procedures.

## Things to consider

- The latest self-funded guide is labelled 2025; confirm next-intake conditions and fees.
- The 2026 CSC deadline has closed, and the next window is unverified.
- Generic Business Administration master wording does not establish an MBA or an academic/professional classification.

## Best fit for

- International applicants seeking a documented English business undergraduate route.
- Bachelor’s graduates planning English master’s study in business, computing or applied economics.
- Applicants prepared to verify the next intake notice and assemble academic references and research documents.

## Campus and city

The university’s library system spans the main campus, Caiyuan Campus, a special-collections museum and the Dezhi Dormitory Area. The current library profile describes lending and self-study space in Dezhi, while the student-life guide explains campus-card access, dining payment and cultural participation. Check the latest service hours and access arrangements on arrival.

HNU is located in Changsha’s Yuelu area, near Yuelu Mountain and the Xiang River. Its campus history includes Yuelu Academy and modern university buildings. Main-campus, Caiyuan and Dezhi facilities serve different daily needs; confirm the teaching and accommodation location for the selected programme rather than treating the central admissions address as a classroom assignment.

English master’s candidates prepare a substantial study or research plan and academic references, with the programme’s current research and thesis arrangements confirmed during admission. The Business School combines management, economics, information science and mathematics across its teaching and research environment. Confirm which practical modules, projects or research facilities belong to the English cohort; an internship or employment outcome is not guaranteed.

## Hostel, food and safety

The 2025 self-funded guide lists annual accommodation references of CNY 8,400 for a single room and CNY 6,000 for a double room, with insurance at CNY 800 per year. These are prior published references; confirm the next intake’s availability, allocation, facilities and price. The current library profile identifies self-study and lending space in the Dezhi Dormitory Area, but this does not establish housing allocation for every applicant.

The current logistics dining overview lists canteens across the main campus, Tianma, Dezhi, Caiyuan and other campus areas, plus pastry provision. The student-life guide explains that the campus card can be used for canteen payment and notes an ethnic restaurant at Tianma. Specific halal, vegetarian or allergy-safe preparation should be confirmed directly; an ethnic-restaurant label alone does not establish a dietary certification.

The university student-life guide describes Hunan University Hospital as a provider of basic medical and health services. International applicants submit a physical-examination record and non-criminal-record certificate under the documented admission routes. The 2026 CSC guide includes insurance support for selected scholarship recipients; self-funded students should confirm the applicable policy and medical arrangements before arrival.

The Center of International Students publishes separate admissions and visa support, with Ms Ting Zeng listed for CSC and self-supported enquiries. The university uses hnu.17gz.org for the documented self-funded application process. Monitor email for assessments and decisions, keep documents consistent with the passport, and follow the offer’s registration and visa instructions. Funding and admission are separate decisions.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is HNU the same as Hunan Normal or Hainan University?

No. This profile concerns Hunan University (湖南大学) in Changsha. Hunan Normal University, Hainan University and other institutions using HNU are separate universities.

### Which English undergraduate route is documented?

The international catalogue lists four-year Business Administration in English, and the current Hunan University Business School introduction independently confirms an international English Business Administration project. Confirm the next intake conditions with the university.

### Which English master’s routes have admission evidence?

The 2026 CSC notice names Business Administration, Computer Science and Technology, and Applied Economics. The international catalogue gives three years for these routes. The English Theoretical Economics catalogue entry needs current route confirmation before application.

### Does Business Administration mean MBA?

The international source establishes a native master’s route in Business Administration without specifying an MBA or academic/professional classification. The repeated identical catalogue row is treated as one route, not proof of two distinct awards.

### What English-language evidence is described?

The 2026 CSC guide accepts English as a mother tongue or results recognised by HNU, giving IELTS 6.0 and TOEFL 80 as examples. The 2025 self-funded guide separately accepts those scores or above within two years, or a prior-school document proving English-medium study. Confirm the chosen route’s current policy.

### What academic and age requirements apply?

The 2026 CSC master’s route requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and age under 35, with non-Chinese citizenship and good physical and mental health. The prior self-funded undergraduate guide requires a high-school qualification and age 18–30 at enrolment; confirm next-intake undergraduate rules.

### Do postgraduate applicants need recommendations and a proposal?

Yes. The 2026 CSC guide requires two signed recommendations from professors or associate professors and a study or research plan of at least 1,000 words in Chinese or English. The 2025 self-funded postgraduate guide instead specifies at least 1,500 words or characters; keep the routes separate.

### Is an application window currently verified?

The documented CSC deadline was 1 March 2026, and the self-funded deadline was 18 July 2025. Both have closed. The next intake’s window and exact commencement date have not been verified; request the current notice before applying.

### What tuition reference is available?

The 2025 guide gives Chinese-route category fees and adds CNY 3,000 per year for English instruction. This produces a broad English undergraduate reference of CNY 18,000–20,000 and master’s reference of CNY 22,000–24,000 annually. Confirm the exact programme category and next fee; these are not confirmed next-intake prices.

### What accommodation and other costs are published?

The 2025 self-funded guide lists annual room references of CNY 8,400 single or CNY 6,000 double, CNY 800 annual insurance and a CNY 400 application fee. Confirm current room allocation, charges and insurance before arrival.

### What does the documented CSC award include?

The 2026 notice lists tuition, a university dormitory or accommodation subsidy, a CNY 3,000 monthly master’s stipend and CNY 800 annual insurance. University recommendation and CSC selection remain conditional; no award is guaranteed, and the notice restricts holding overlapping Chinese scholarship funding.

### What dining and study facilities are described?

Official pages describe campus canteens, campus-card dining payment, and main-campus, Caiyuan and Dezhi library facilities. Confirm specific dietary preparation directly. A campus or dormitory name in a facilities page does not determine a programme’s teaching or housing assignment.

### Does the university date from 976 or 1926?

Yuelu Academy was founded in 976. The official history states that the modern institution took the Hunan University name in 1926. This profile uses 1926 for the university date while preserving the earlier academy heritage in the narrative.
