## Why students choose it

- One international admissions route covers computing, engineering, business, design, agriculture, hospitality, law and sciences, so a single portal serves very different disciplines
- International applicants are assessed on marks in the last qualification completed; LPU states no additional entrance examination is required, unlike the LPUNEST, JEE (Main) and CUET route used for Indian nationals
- Merit scholarships cut tuition by 40, 50 or 60 per cent for the standard duration of the programme, awarded on qualifying-exam marks or the LPUIST score without a separate application

## Things to consider

- The Bureau of Immigration prohibits employment and business activity on an Indian student visa, so the programme cannot be part-funded from work in India, and LPU repeats that a visa issued in its name cannot be used for employment
- Tuition tier is decided by nationality, not by need: SAARC applicants are billed in rupees, applicants from Africa and a defined list of other countries pay a lower dollar tier, and everyone else pays the standard dollar tier
- The NRI scholarship scale is far stricter than the foreign-national scale - 98 per cent in Grade 12 for the 60 per cent award against 90 per cent on the foreign-national scale - so applicant category changes the real cost

## Best fit for

- Applicants from the 25 origin countries with a dedicated LPU requirements page, whose national qualification is already mapped to the 50 per cent entry threshold
- Students who want an English-taught Indian degree without sitting a national entrance examination such as JEE (Main) or CUET
- Strong school leavers who can convert 90 per cent or higher marks, or an LPUIST category cut-off, into a 60 per cent tuition scholarship

## Campus and city

Teaching sits on one residential campus on the Jalandhar-Delhi G.T. Road at Phagwara, Punjab 144411. LPU reports more than 3,000 international students from over 50 countries, more than 150 programmes across over 40 discipline areas, and a library holding more than two million books and e-books with 24-hour access. A shopping mall, about 50 ATMs, a swimming pool, an indoor sports stadium and a health centre are inside the campus. Summers in the Phagwara-Jalandhar belt run 35-45C and winters 5-20C, so winter clothing is needed from November.

Phagwara is a small industrial city in Punjab on the Jalandhar-Delhi G.T. Road, and the campus sits directly on that highway, so long-distance buses from Delhi can stop at the university gates if the driver is told in advance. LPU publishes road distances to five airports: Adampur Civil Airport 35 km (about 45 minutes), Ludhiana 60 km (about 1 hour 30 minutes), Amritsar Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International 70 km (about 2 hours), Chandigarh 175 km (about 3 hours) and Delhi Indira Gandhi International 370 km (about 7 hours). Most international arrivals route through Delhi and continue by connecting flight or road. The currency is the Indian rupee; LPU advises arriving with US dollars or euros and using the money-exchange point on campus, and Indian SIM cards are sold at helpdesks during reporting. Temperatures range from 35-45C in summer to 5-20C in winter, so warm clothing is needed from November.

Practical training is built around named industry relationships rather than generic placement support. LPU lists tie-ups used in engineering teaching with Google, Microsoft, Dell EMC, Bosch, Cisco, VMware and Pega, and runs B.Tech. (CSE) specialisations designed with named partners including Quantiphi and Futurense. The National Board of Accreditation lists four B.Tech. programmes - Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering - on its Tier I register, which is the Washington Accord tier, to 30 June 2027, and the MBA on its Management PG register to the same date. The School of Agriculture holds ICAR accreditation from the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board for its B.Sc. (Hons.) and eight M.Sc. awards, so agriculture teaching is assessed against the national agricultural-education standard rather than a general technical one. Academic collaborations with universities including UCLA, the University of British Columbia, Seoul National University, the University of Bristol and the University of Leeds support 2+2 international credit-transfer versions of several B.Tech., BBA and B.Design awards, which are admitted under separate programme codes. Hospitality and design programmes are taught with studio and operational components rather than lecture-only delivery.

## Hostel, food and safety

Rooms are booked when the Acceptance Letter is issued and charged for a full academic session of about ten months. Published 2026-2027 Early Decision charges, valid to 31 August 2026, run from INR 73,000 or USD 870 for an air-cooled six-to-eight-seater, through INR 86,000 or USD 1,020 for an air-cooled four-seater and INR 116,000 or USD 1,370 for an air-cooled two-seater, to INR 156,000 or USD 1,845 for an air-conditioned single and INR 193,000 or USD 2,295 for a one-seater studio apartment. Rupee rates apply to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka; every other nationality pays the dollar rate. After the deadline each category rises by INR 10,000 or USD 120. Rooms include bed, mattress, study table, almirah and an attached washroom with geyser.

Campus dining halls serve four meals a day and LPU states that more than 100,000 meals are prepared fresh on campus daily. Mess, laundry, gym, swimming pool and indoor-facility charges sit outside the published room rate and are administered by the campus residential operator, so they are quoted separately at booking. A shopping mall, food courts and about 50 ATMs are on campus, and a money-exchange point handles arrivals carrying US dollars or euros.

LPU states the campus is manned by over 400 full-time security officials with CCTV surveillance and fire-safety systems, and applies zero tolerance to ragging, alcohol, smoking, drugs and disciplinary misconduct. A health centre operates on campus, and international students are required to hold international medical insurance valid in India for the full programme duration.

The Division of International Affairs at Block 32, Room 308 handles FRRO registration and visa extensions. Complimentary airport pickup is offered to new July/August intake students who submit arrival details at least one week ahead, though it may be declined for very small groups. An English Language Programme runs at beginner (8 months), intermediate (5 months) and advanced (3 months) levels alongside regular study.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Lovely Professional University public or private?

It is a state private university. LPU was established in Punjab by the Lovely Professional University Act, 2005, which received the Governor's assent on 23 December 2005, and it is recognised by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, with recognition also accorded under Section 12(B).

### What language are the programmes taught in?

English is the medium of instruction across LPU's regular programmes, with no later switch to Hindi or Punjabi. LPU states that it will not be accountable for academic difficulty caused by weak English, gives no exam relaxation on language grounds, and may require a student to take its English Language Programme alongside the regular degree or move the student to another programme.

### Do international applicants need to sit an entrance exam?

No. LPU states that international students do not take an additional qualifying examination; eligibility and the scholarship band are decided on marks in the last qualification completed. LPUNEST, JEE (Main), CMAT and CUET belong to the Indian-national admission route. LPUIST, the International Scholarship Test, is optional and affects only the scholarship band.

### What are the English language requirements?

Every international applicant must satisfy one of five routes regardless of programme: a pass in English at Grade 10 or a higher examination; proof that the eligibility qualification or higher was taught in English; IELTS band 5.5; TOEFL 70 or the equivalent in another TOEFL format; or a Certificate for Proficiency in English lasting at least three months.

### Do the entry requirements change depending on my country?

The 50 per cent threshold and the English requirement are constant, but the qualification named changes. LPU runs requirement pages for 25 origin countries plus a Non-Resident Indian track. Nepal is assessed on the Secondary Education Examination and Higher Secondary Education, Bangladesh on the Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate, and Nigeria and Ghana on grade 10 / O Level and the 12th Grade Graduation Certificate.

### How much is tuition and does it depend on nationality?

Yes, three per-semester tiers are published. For B.Tech. CSE the SAARC tier is INR 160,000, the Africa and selected-countries tier USD 2,500 and the all-other-countries tier USD 4,000; the MBA is INR 220,000, USD 3,000 and USD 4,500. A one-time uniform charge, an examination fee each semester and a one-time admission processing fee are added on top.

### How is the NRI fee and scholarship track different?

The NRI page carries its own scholarship scale, which is materially harder than the foreign-national scale. It awards 60 per cent for 98 per cent or above in Grade 12, 50 per cent for 95-97.99 per cent, 40 per cent for 90-94.99 per cent and 30 per cent for 80-89.99 per cent, against 90, 75 and 60 per cent thresholds on the foreign-national scale. Children of NRIs and PIO card holders also do not need to obtain a student visa.

### What does on-campus accommodation cost?

Residential charges for academic session 2026-2027 are published by room category for the full year. With the Early Decision Benefit valid to 31 August 2026 they run from INR 73,000 or USD 870 for an air-cooled six-to-eight-seater to INR 193,000 or USD 2,295 for a one-seater studio apartment. Rupee rates apply to the six SAARC countries and dollar rates elsewhere; after the deadline each category rises by INR 10,000 or USD 120.

### How do I apply and what does the process produce?

Register on the LPU INTADMIT portal, complete the form and upload the qualifying-exam documents. An Offer Letter or Conditional Offer Letter usually follows within three working days. After the provisional registration fee is transferred and the signed Acceptance of Offer Letter, payment proof and passport copy are uploaded, LPU issues the Acceptance Letter. Only the Acceptance Letter is accepted for the Indian student-visa application.

### When does the session start and what is the application deadline?

Batch 2026 international admissions opened on 25 October 2025, and LPU publishes 31 August 2026 as the last date to apply with scholarship. The session commences in the third week of July, with exact reporting dates issued per programme. MBA applicants report earlier: compulsory pre-term classes begin on 30 July 2026 and classes start on 10 August 2026.

### Can I work part-time in India while studying at LPU?

No. The Bureau of Immigration states that foreigners on a student visa must not involve themselves in any employment or business activity in India, and LPU repeats that a visa issued in its name cannot be used for employment or for admission elsewhere. Budgeting should assume tuition, residence and living costs are met from savings, family support or scholarship.

### What immigration steps apply after arrival?

Student-visa holders staying beyond 180 days must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer within 14 days of arrival, using passport, visa page, bonafide certificate, local address proof and a photograph. Foreign students are also required to open a Non-Resident Ordinary bank account and give the details to the FRRO. LPU's Division of International Affairs at Block 32, Room 308 assists with registration and extension.

### What do the accreditations actually cover?

They are programme-specific. The National Board of Accreditation lists LPU's B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering on its Tier I (Washington Accord) register to 30 June 2027, and the MBA on the Management PG register to the same date. ICAR accreditation covers the School of Agriculture's B.Sc. (Hons.) and eight M.Sc. awards. Pharmacy and architecture carry PCI and COA approval. LPU's law courses do not currently hold a Bar Council of India approval window running past 2025-26, so no LPU law programme is listed on this page.
