## Admissions

International undergraduate and master’s applicants use SCUT’s online application system. Qualifications, CSCA subjects, English evidence, school assessments and supervisor requirements depend on the programme. Confirm the next entry-cycle notice before submitting.

## Why students choose it

- English-taught undergraduate options in AI, data science, robotics and intelligent manufacturing.
- Applied computing and engineering master’s curricula with named laboratory and design topics.
- Distinct campus options within Guangzhou for engineering, business and interdisciplinary study.

## Things to consider

- Guangzhou International Campus undergraduate tuition differs substantially from other English routes.
- CSCA subjects and school-specific English requirements differ by programme.
- Most master’s applications require a supervisor pre-acceptance letter; the MBA has a work-experience requirement.

## Best fit for

- Students comparing English-taught AI, computing and engineering degrees in mainland China.
- Applicants ready for quantitative study, projects and programme-specific selection.
- Students who will assess the exact school, campus and study budget before applying.

## Campus and city

SCUT has three campuses with libraries, dining and sports facilities. Wushan is in Tianhe District; University Town and Guangzhou International Campus are in Panyu. The teaching school and programme determine where students study, so compare the campus location alongside the curriculum.

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province and an established centre for trade and industry in the Pearl River region. The distance between SCUT’s Tianhe and Panyu campuses matters when planning housing, travel and activities. Confirm the programme’s campus before arranging accommodation.

English computing and engineering curricula include applied design and laboratory study. AI undergraduates study integrated AI systems, while Robot Engineering includes control and human–machine interaction. The electrical and computer engineering master includes embedded programming and machine-vision practice. The School of Future Technology lists an AI direction within its Information and Communication Engineering master.

## Hostel, food and safety

The published housing schedule covers ten months from fall to spring. Wushan twin rooms are CNY 9,800; University Town lists twin rooms at CNY 8,000 and four-person rooms at CNY 3,500. Guangzhou International Campus lists single rooms at CNY 20,000, twin rooms at CNY 10,000 and four-person rooms at CNY 5,000. Allocation is first come, first served and requires confirmation.

The 2026 prospectus lists campus dining and supermarket services. University Town includes a Muslim-food option. Menus and dietary suitability should be confirmed locally. The university estimates personal living expenses of CNY 20,000–30,000 per year, separate from tuition and accommodation.

The university publishes insurance and residence guidance and lists an International Student Counseling Center. The current insurance reference is CNY 800 per year. International students need the appropriate study visa and residence arrangements, and those living off campus must follow the stated local registration process.

The School of International Education provides admissions, academic and student-affairs contacts, alongside visa, insurance and counselling information. Campus services include libraries, IT facilities, language support and sports spaces. Students Traffic can help compare the programme requirements and prepare a document plan.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is SCUT a recognised public university?

South China University of Technology appears on the Ministry of Education’s directly administered universities list. It was established as the South China Institute of Technology in 1952 and is based in Guangzhou. The institution is distinct from similarly named universities elsewhere in China.

### Which English-taught undergraduate options relate to AI?

Options include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robot Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering and Computer Science and Technology. Biomedical Engineering and Soft Matter Science and Engineering add related interdisciplinary study. Compare the exact campus, subjects and programme content.

### Is there an AI-related master’s route?

The School of Future Technology lists an Artificial Intelligence direction within its Information and Communication Engineering master’s award. Electrical and computer engineering study also includes control, robotics, embedded systems and machine vision. A direction inside a degree is not a separate AI award.

### Which campus would I attend?

The programme determines the campus. Computing and international trade undergraduate study is listed at University Town; the named emerging engineering undergraduate routes are at Guangzhou International Campus. English master’s routes operate at Wushan and International Campus, including school-specific communication and control options.

### What CSCA subjects are required?

International Economics and Trade requires Mathematics. Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Intelligent Manufacturing and Robot Engineering require Mathematics and Physics. Biomedical Engineering and Soft Matter require Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Use the exact current programme table when registering for the tests.

### What English scores do undergraduates need?

General English-medium examples are TOEFL iBT 68, IELTS 5.5 or Duolingo 100. Soft Matter has a specific exception: only IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 70 is listed, plus the relevant school-subject average. Language results must remain valid at enrolment and are valid for two years.

### How do undergraduate fees differ by campus?

The published annual tuition reference is CNY 26,000 for general English-medium or bilingual undergraduate routes and CNY 95,000 for Guangzhou International Campus programmes. These amounts require confirmation for the next entry cycle. Housing, insurance and personal spending are separate.

### What are the master’s English and academic requirements?

The general master’s route requires a bachelor’s degree, age under thirty-five and accepted English evidence, such as TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.0 or Duolingo 112. Programme-specific academic requirements and school assessments also apply.

### Do master’s applicants need a supervisor letter?

The central guide requires a pre-acceptance letter signed by an SCUT professor or associate professor, except for MBA applicants. Prepare the signed letter before submitting the application; MBA applicants follow the separate MBA centre assessment.

### What experience is required for the MBA?

Applicants need at least three years of work experience after an undergraduate degree, or two years after a postgraduate degree, and must pass the MBA centre’s evaluation. The published English MBA duration is two years; its tuition reference is an annual amount.

### When do applications close and classes start?

The university states recurring deadlines of 30 June for undergraduate and 15 June for master’s applications, with a September start. Individual schools and scholarships can use different deadlines. Confirm the next annual notice and the exact registration date in the offer.

### Are accommodation and scholarships guaranteed?

Accommodation reservations are first come, first served. Scholarship consideration depends on merit, award conditions and review; automatic consideration does not guarantee an award. The International Student Scholarship for Excellence includes full or partial tuition waivers, with annual continuation assessment.

### Are Chinese skills needed for English programmes?

English is the teaching medium for the routes shown, while Chinese language, listening or culture modules appear in their curricula. Chinese-medium and bilingual programmes have separate HSK and speaking-test requirements. An English course webpage alone is not treated as proof of English teaching.
