## Admissions

Select the exact regular university-department programme and demonstrate its academic or expressly accepted alternative qualification. Confirm actual teaching-language arrangements, final eligibility acceptance and the applicable fee category before accepting an offer.

## Why students choose it

- Specialist postgraduate study in music, dance and fine arts within a public arts university.
- Distinct regular subject routes, with published academic qualifications and native tuition schedules.
- Performance and studio-oriented learning through the relevant subject curriculum.

## Things to consider

- Choose university departments separately from affiliated colleges, off-campus centres and weekend awards.
- Confirm the selected programme’s teaching and examination language before accepting an offer.
- Tuition excludes other institutional charges and residential costs; confirm any revised tariff before payment.

## Best fit for

- Applicants whose academic or expressly accepted diploma route matches the selected postgraduate subject.
- Musicians, dancers and artists seeking regular postgraduate study in Chennai.
- Students prepared to document their subject training and complete university eligibility verification.

## Campus and city

The university departments are at Thendral Building within the Tamil Nadu Government Music College campus in R.A. Puram, Chennai. Music and arts study combines subject work with performance or studio practice. Confirm the programme’s class schedule and actual language arrangements before enrolling.

R.A. Puram is in south Chennai, near the Adyar area. The university gives its address as Dr. D.G.S. Dinakaran Salai, Chennai 600028. Applicants should plan accommodation and travel around the university department location and confirm any separately assigned teaching venue.

The university describes lectures, tutorials, seminars, projects, practical training, report writing and viva voce as programme components where prescribed. Its regular portfolio includes Carnatic vocal and instrumental music, Bharathanatyam and painting. Actual practical requirements follow the selected syllabus; a degree does not guarantee performance engagements, professional employment or clinical authority.

## Hostel, food and safety

Confirm whether university accommodation is available for the selected programme and category. No verified room allocation, hostel price or guaranteed residential place is established in the reviewed admission documents.

Ask about current meal arrangements and any dietary needs before making residential or daily travel plans. The reviewed programme documents do not establish a guaranteed campus meal service.

The university publishes an Anti-Ragging Committee and Ombudsperson contact route. Confirm the current reporting process, campus contacts and travel arrangements when enrolling; no general safety guarantee is implied.

The regular application requires academic records, original-document verification and applicable category certificates. Music applicants using an alternative qualifying route should keep the corresponding Guru, music diploma, Kalakshetra or All India Radio documentation ready.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where are these programmes taught?

These are regular programmes in the university’s own departments at Thendral Building within the Tamil Nadu Government Music College campus, R.A. Puram, Chennai. They are separate from affiliated-college, online and off-campus awards.

### How long do the regular degrees take?

The listed regular MA Music, Bharathanatyam and MFA Painting programmes last two years. The university separately lists three-year weekend awards; their mode and admission arrangements should be checked independently.

### What qualification is needed for music or dance?

The MA prospectus lists a BA in Music and several alternative routes involving a UG degree plus documented music training or All India Radio A-grade status. It expressly includes a four-year Kalakshetra diploma route. The university must accept the exact credential.

### What qualification is needed for MFA Painting?

The regular prospectus specifies a BFA in the concerned subject through the 10+2+4, 11+1+4 or 10+5 educational pattern. Final acceptance remains subject to university authority or committee approval.

### What is the teaching language?

Programme-specific teaching languages are not independently established, so language filters are left blank. An independent institutional directory lists Tamil and English generally; confirm the selected programme’s class and examination arrangements before accepting an offer.

### What does the fee amount cover?

The MA/MFA amounts isolate tuition from their published regular schedules. The Theatre Arts quote is an annual programme fee without an isolated tuition component. Other payments, application charges, deposits and living costs require separate confirmation.

### Are music tuition concessions automatic?

The MA table shows a separate SC/ST tuition-exemption column. Applicants must confirm their applicable category and produce the required certificates; this should not be treated as an unconditional waiver of all admission or living costs.

### Can international applicants apply?

The university’s application documents include overseas applicant categories, but qualification acceptance, passport or visa requirements and the applicable current fee category require direct confirmation. The domestic fee should not be assumed to be the foreign rate.

### When does the next intake begin?

Use the next applicable university admission notice for application and reporting dates. No exact intake month or future application opening is asserted here.
