## Admissions

International undergraduates use the official UWindsor route, OUAC where applicable or an authorised agent; graduate applicants apply directly or through an authorised agent. Graduate deadlines vary by programme and the university recommends applying 8–12 months before the intended start. Check exact academic prerequisites, English scores, portfolio/audition, supervisor, interview, clinical and professional-regulator requirements on each official profile.

## Why students choose it

- A broad, student-focused public university with nine faculties and more than 120 undergraduate majors and minors.
- A current official graduate catalogue covering master's, doctoral, professional and interdisciplinary programmes across engineering, science, business, law, education, nursing and the arts.
- A cross-border Windsor location beside the Detroit River, with an internationally oriented campus community and access to a mid-sized Canadian city.

## Things to consider

- The university's official pages say graduate deadlines vary by programme; international applicants are advised to apply 8–12 months before the intended start, so there is no single Windsor-wide deadline.
- International undergraduate and course-based graduate deposits are listed by Finance as CAD 2,000 and CAD 4,000 respectively; deposits are non-refundable and programme-specific conditions apply.
- A Canadian degree does not automatically grant professional registration in another country. Nursing, law, education and engineering applicants must check the relevant regulator and exact programme status.

## Best fit for

- Students seeking a broad Canadian public university with options across business, engineering, law, science, education, nursing and the arts.
- Applicants who want to compare undergraduate routes with research master's, professional master's and doctoral study at the same institution.
- Students comfortable verifying faculty-specific admission, language, clinical, portfolio, supervisor and professional-registration requirements.

## Campus and city

UWindsor's main campus is at 401 Sunset Avenue beside the Detroit River, near the Canada–United States border. The university describes itself as a student-focused institution with about 18,000 students, nine academic faculties and a broad undergraduate and graduate portfolio. Facilities and services include Leddy Library, Paul Martin Law Library, the CAW Student Centre, athletics and recreation, residence, accessibility services, health services and international-student support. Students should confirm current residence availability, room types and rates directly with Residence Services because these change by intake and contract.

Windsor is Canada's southernmost city in southwestern Ontario, across the Detroit River from Detroit, Michigan. The location gives international students access to a mid-sized Canadian city and a major cross-border metropolitan area, but crossing the border requires the correct travel documents and is not part of ordinary study-permit status. The university identifies Windsor's waterfront location and international orientation as central parts of its identity; applicants should budget for local housing and transport rather than assume Toronto pricing or amenities.

Experiential learning is available through faculty-specific co-operative education, internships, clinical placements, legal clinics, laboratories, studios and research projects. Windsor Law lists clinic practice, externships, judicial internships, social-justice fellowships, mooting and project-based external placements. Nursing's official faculty material should be checked for current clinical partners and clearance requirements. Engineering and science applicants should confirm the current co-op, laboratory, capstone and supervisor arrangements for their chosen programme rather than generalising from another faculty.

## Hostel, food and safety

UWindsor provides residence and housing guidance through its official student-life and residence services. The public university information reviewed for this payload does not provide one stable international residence price covering every room and meal-plan combination, so no unsupported figure is published here. Applicants should compare the current residence contract, deposit, meal-plan, utilities and cancellation terms with verified off-campus options near the Sunset Avenue campus before budgeting.

Campus food services and Windsor's wider city food scene provide options for international students, but meal-plan menus, residence kitchens, dietary accommodation and opening hours vary. Students with religious, medical or allergy-related needs should contact the university's food services, residence and accessibility teams before arrival and confirm how those needs are handled in the current contract. South Asian groceries and restaurants are available in the city, but no specific business is presented as a university service.

UWindsor provides campus security, emergency contacts, health services, accessibility services and international-student support. The city and campus are adjacent to an international border, so students should carry the correct documents when travelling and follow current university and government guidance. Safety conditions and emergency procedures can change; use the university's official safety and emergency pages for current contacts rather than relying on generic claims about Windsor being safe.

The university's international application guidance directs students to recruitment and international support teams, while the campus provides academic advising, accessibility services, health services, residence services, athletics and recreation, libraries and student-life programming. Graduate applicants receive programme-specific admission guidance through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and undergraduate applicants apply through the official international route, OUAC where applicable or an authorised agent. Students Traffic can help applicants compare requirements and prepare a source-checked shortlist.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the University of Windsor public or private?

The University of Windsor is a public university in Windsor, Ontario, founded in 1857. Its official overview describes a comprehensive, student-focused institution with about 18,000 students and programmes across nine faculties.

### How broad is the University of Windsor programme portfolio?

The university says it offers more than 120 undergraduate majors and minors and 70 master's and doctoral degree programmes. The Faculty of Graduate Studies maintains the current programme list and individual profiles, so applicants should use the exact profile for requirements and deadlines.

### How do international undergraduates apply?

UWindsor's international application guidance provides direct online application routes, OUAC routes in applicable cases and authorised educational agents. The route depends on residence, citizenship, prior study and the number of Ontario universities being considered.

### How do international graduate applicants apply?

Applicants apply directly to UWindsor or through an authorised educational agent. Graduate deadlines and requirements vary by programme; the university recommends international applicants apply 8–12 months before the intended start and check the individual profile.

### What English-language support is available?

UWindsor may issue conditional admission where the applicant will satisfy the English requirement through the English Language Improvement Program or another accepted route, when applicable. Exact test scores and exemptions are programme-specific and must be checked on the official profile.

### What deposits may international students need to pay?

The Finance Department lists a CAD 2,000 deposit for international undergraduate programmes, CAD 4,000 for international course-based graduate programmes and CAD 2,000 for other international graduate programmes, subject to the current fee page and programme conditions. Deposits are described as non-refundable.

### Are all programmes open to international students?

No. Availability and restrictions are programme-specific. For example, the Graduate Diploma in University Teaching is limited to current UWindsor graduate students, and some combined professional programmes may pause admissions for a specific cycle.

### Does a UWindsor degree guarantee professional registration?

No. Nursing, law, education and engineering registration depends on the relevant Canadian or home-country regulator, the exact degree and current rules. Applicants should confirm the regulator's requirements before treating a programme as a professional-licensing route.

### What is the campus and city setting?

The main campus is at 401 Sunset Avenue in Windsor beside the Detroit River. Windsor is across the river from Detroit and is Canada's southernmost city; cross-border travel requires appropriate documents and is separate from ordinary study in Canada.

### Where can students check current tuition and housing costs?

Use UWindsor's official Finance fee pages, fee estimator, programme profile and Residence Services information. Amounts vary by faculty, level, course load, room type, meal plan, ancillary fees and academic year, so older third-party totals should not be treated as current quotes.
