## Admissions

Apply through YNU’s official international service system using the exact current degree checklist. The university reviews documents and may require written tests or interviews; registration details are determined by the formal admission notice.

## Why students choose it

- Exact current English programme entries at undergraduate and master level.
- Published standard durations and transparent tuition calculations including the annual English surcharge.
- University research and practical-learning environment in software and artificial intelligence.

## Things to consider

- English-course delivery does not establish exemption from Chinese coursework or graduation requirements; confirm the exact programme plan.
- Bilingual English-certificate exemption wording differs; obtain university confirmation before relying on a waiver.
- Current application dates and fees refer to the 2026 cycle, and a next degree-intake month is not established.

## Best fit for

- Students comparing English undergraduate Software Engineering with Mathematics and Physics CSCA requirements.
- Bachelor’s graduates considering Intelligent Science and Technology under the current international master conditions.
- Applicants prepared to document language, academic, health, police and financial requirements through YNU’s official system.

## Campus and city

YNU has Donglu and Chenggong campuses. The current undergraduate guide gives a Chenggong international-office address, while the newer master guide gives the International Education College at Donglu Campus. These contact locations do not establish every programme’s teaching or residence assignment; confirm both in the admission notice.

Kunming is the city named in YNU’s admissions addresses. The master guide locates its international office at 2 Cuihu North Road, Wuhua District, on Donglu Campus; the undergraduate guide lists a Chenggong Campus office. Obtain the actual registration location and travel instructions from the offer rather than assuming the central contact address is the teaching campus.

The current Software and Artificial Intelligence school describes teaching, practical work and development through a CDIO approach, supported by software, cloud-computing, intelligent-computing and cross-border data research platforms. Its academic master fields include Intelligent Science and Technology. These school facilities describe the academic environment; they do not guarantee a specific placement, supervisor, project or employment outcome.

## Hostel, food and safety

Current international guides say on-campus accommodation depends on apartment capacity and student preference, usually in four-person rooms. Charges vary with conditions, and water/electricity are paid separately under apartment-centre notices. No exact room tariff or guaranteed place is established in the reviewed current guide; request the actual offer and terms before budgeting.

The reviewed current guides do not establish a specialised-meal or kitchen-access guarantee for either degree route. Confirm dietary needs, available food options and any cooking access for the teaching campus and residence assigned by YNU.

The application checklist requires a complete health form and a recent police certificate. International students must purchase the required comprehensive insurance, published at CNY 800/person/year; failure to obtain it after the required period can cancel admission eligibility. Keep university contacts reachable and follow the official registration instructions.

The newer 2026 master guide gives lxsk@ynu.edu.cn and 0871-65033166 for the International Education College, with weekday contact hours 08:30–12:00 and 14:00–17:00 Beijing time. The undergraduate guide gives the same email through International Cooperation and Exchange. Use the official online system and monitor messages; application documents emailed or posted are not reviewed.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which English degrees are supported?

Four-year undergraduate Software Engineering and the three-year master in Intelligent Science and Technology are explicitly marked English Taught in the current 2026 international catalogues. Other majors, including foreign-language studies and the separate Software Engineering master fee row, are not assumed to be English programmes.

### What are the verified tuition amounts?

Software Engineering uses the science/engineering undergraduate base CNY 11,000/year plus the explicit CNY 5,000 English surcharge, totalling CNY 16,000/year. The exact Intelligent Science master fee-appendix row gives CNY 8,000 base, plus the same surcharge, totalling CNY 13,000/year. These are transparent calculations from the 2026 published schedule; confirm later-intake charges.

### Which English test scores are required?

Both current guides specify IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL 90, or another valid equivalent certificate recognised by YNU. The undergraduate guide also specifies Duolingo 110; the master guide does not independently establish that option. Do not transfer a certificate option from one level to another.

### Can English certificates be waived?

The Chinese current text refers to applicants from countries where English is a working language, while the English text refers to native speakers. Confirm the exact exemption with YNU before relying on it. No general English-medium-school exemption or automatic broader waiver is inferred.

### Which CSCA papers apply to Software Engineering?

The exact current undergraduate row requires Mathematics and Physics, with English as the examination language. This differs from another university’s Physics-or-Chemistry choice and must not be substituted. CSCA results form part of the application; no unverified minimum score is invented.

### What age and qualifications are required?

Undergraduate applicants are aged 18–30 and hold senior high-school graduation or higher. The regular master guide gives age 20–40 and requires a bachelor’s degree, good academic performance and readiness for programme assessment. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens meeting the relevant nationality and university rules.

### What study plans and references are required?

Both levels require a study plan or research proposal of more than 1,000 words in Chinese or English. Master applicants also submit two professor or associate-professor recommendations with names, titles and contact details. The master proposal should address the research question, existing preparation, approach, methods and expected objectives.

### What health and financial records are needed?

The checklist includes a complete Foreigner Physical Examination Form with hospital stamp, physician signature and sealed photograph, and a police certificate issued within six months. Financial evidence is a recent bank balance or the signed guarantor form with guarantor ID and bank evidence. Notarised Chinese or English translations are required for other-language documents.

### Can I send documents by email or post?

No. The current guides require electronic upload to YNU’s official international application system and state that emailed or posted application materials are not reviewed. Keep all uploaded records clear, authentic and valid, monitor messages and bring required originals for registration verification.

### What are the current application dates?

Published regular undergraduate deadline is 31 May 2026; the regular master deadline is 15 May 2026 at 00:00 Beijing time. Both are past. A later International Chinese Education master deadline does not apply to Intelligent Science and Technology. Scholarship deadlines differ; no 2027 degree deadline or exact start month is inferred.

### Which campus will I attend?

YNU has Donglu and Chenggong campuses. The current undergraduate and master contact-office addresses differ, and the Software school identifies a Chenggong base. These facts do not establish every international teaching or residence assignment. The university offer determines registration date and place; confirm the exact programme and accommodation campus directly.

### What accommodation and insurance are available?

On-campus housing depends on apartment capacity and student preference, usually four-person rooms. Prices vary, and utilities follow separate apartment-centre notices; no exact tariff or room guarantee is established. Required comprehensive insurance is published at CNY 800/person/year, with admission consequences if the requirement remains unmet.

### Are scholarships or graduate-school routes automatically included?

No. Government, provincial, university and other scholarships have separate applications and award rules. Funding is not an assumed fee discount. The current Southwest United Graduate School international guide covers Chinese-taught doctoral programmes, outside this English undergraduate/master scope. Generic English-test wording there does not establish an English master route.
