## Admissions

International undergraduate and master’s applicants apply through Zhejiang University’s international student system. Requirements vary by school, study language, campus and partner route. Review the next entry-cycle announcement before submitting an application.

## Why students choose it

- English-taught computing, engineering and professional master’s routes.
- Named biomedical dual degrees and an interdisciplinary communication undergraduate option.
- Academic and professional study across several specialist campuses.

## Things to consider

- The current reviewed international guides cover 2026; application dates are closed and 2027 details require confirmation.
- Some English-directory programmes still require Chinese skills or supervisor confirmation of teaching language.
- KTH and Politecnico di Milano dual-master routes have partner-recommendation restrictions.

## Best fit for

- Students comparing English-taught computing, engineering and interdisciplinary postgraduate study.
- Applicants able to meet programme-specific language and supervisor conditions.
- Students who want to assess the exact school, campus and award before applying.

## Campus and city

The university has several campuses and school communities. Haining International Campus brings together joint institutes, a residential-college environment and international business programmes. The International School of Medicine has a separate campus in Yiwu. Confirm the teaching and housing location for the exact programme.

Zhejiang University is based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Some international programmes are based in other cities: Haining for joint institutes and ZIBS, Yiwu for the International School of Medicine, Zhoushan for Ocean College and Ningbo for the listed industrial-design engineering route. Plan travel and housing around the programme’s actual location.

Options span academic research and professional study. Computing, software and security master’s programmes give priority to applicants with a supervisor-acceptance form, while the Haining AI master requires one. ZIBS’s Global Communication and Management undergraduate programme combines interdisciplinary study, practical projects and an academic dissertation. Medical academic master’s students complete first-year coursework in Yiwu before supervised research.

## Hostel, food and safety

Accommodation arrangements depend on the campus and programme. ZJU-ISM collects admitted students’ housing preferences and allocates rooms. Its 2026 academic master’s freshman scholarship includes first-year accommodation for selected recipients. Haining applicants should follow International Campus residential-college procedures; confirm room type, charges and availability in the offer.

Yiwu campus lists Chinese dining, a café and a bakery. Haining and other campuses have their own dining arrangements. Confirm menus and any dietary requirements with the relevant campus before arrival, and budget food and personal costs separately from tuition.

International students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in mainland China for semester registration. The Yiwu campus service directory includes campus security, maintenance and lost-property services. Insurance, visa and residence formalities are part of enrolment planning; programme admission does not replace these requirements.

International admissions offices and the individual schools provide application, offer and registration guidance. Haining International Campus and the International School of Medicine have separate contacts for their students. Students Traffic can help compare exact requirements, identify campus differences and organise an application plan.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Zhejiang University a public university?

Zhejiang University is a public university based in Hangzhou and appears on the Ministry of Education’s directly administered universities list. Its origins trace to Qiushi Academy in 1897. Individual joint institutes and specialist campuses are academic units within the university.

### Are all programmes taught in English?

No. Most undergraduate routes are Chinese-taught, with a defined international English catalogue. English master’s options span several fields, but some have bilingual courses, HSK requirements or supervisor-language conditions. Check the exact programme rather than the language of its webpage.

### Which routes connect to AI and computing?

The current international master’s catalogue includes Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Cyberspace Security and Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering. The Haining ZJU-UIUC Institute lists a professional Artificial Intelligence master. Supervisor requirements and study locations differ between them.

### Can international students apply for ZJUI engineering undergraduate degrees?

ZJUI describes English-taught dual undergraduate engineering degrees, but the current 2026 central international English UG catalogue does not list them. A 2025 institute admissions page does not establish a new-cycle international route. Confirm current availability with ZJUI before applying.

### Where would I study?

The location depends on the programme. ZIBS and joint institutes operate at Haining International Campus; the International School of Medicine is in Yiwu. Some ocean-related study is in Zhoushan and industrial-design engineering is listed in Ningbo. Other schools have their own teaching campuses.

### What tests do English undergraduate applicants need?

A valid CSCA report is required, with English chosen as the examination language. GCM requires Mathematics; the listed biomedical routes require Mathematics and Chemistry. English thresholds and school-subject requirements are programme-specific, so one test rule does not cover every route.

### Do master’s applicants need a supervisor?

Some programmes require a provisional-acceptance form from a ZJU supervisor; others recommend it or give applicants priority for having it. The Haining AI master requires the form. Follow the exact programme’s condition rather than assuming every master has the same rule.

### Can I use the published 2026 application dates?

The reviewed 2026 dates have passed. General self-funded applications ended 28 February 2026, with specified programmes extending to 31 May 2026. Confirm a new-cycle announcement and any separate scholarship deadline before applying.

### Are the displayed fees annual or total-course charges?

The catalogue uses both periods. Some programmes quote annual tuition, while others—including several business and law routes—quote a complete-programme total. Published 2026 amounts are shown as indicative planning references until the next cycle is confirmed; total-course fees are not converted into annual prices.

### Are partner-university master’s routes open to everyone?

No. The listed architecture dual-degree route accepts only applicants recommended by Politecnico di Milano, and Optical Engineering accepts only KTH-recommended applicants. The part-time GMSCM business route requires an existing China Residence Permit. These restrictions materially affect eligibility.

### Do English-taught medicine routes require Chinese?

The MBBS is English-taught, with Chinese and Medical Chinese study throughout the curriculum. Medical Chinese prepares students for communication with hospital staff, patients and families in Chinese during clerkships and internships. An English course label does not remove the clinical-language requirement.

### Are the medical master’s programmes clinical residency qualifications?

The listed medicine routes are academic master’s programmes. First-year coursework is in Yiwu, followed by research with a supervisor. They are not represented here as clinical residency or medical-practice licences; the award and any professional recognition need separate assessment.

### Are scholarships guaranteed?

Scholarships have separate eligibility, selection, renewal and deadline rules. Some English programmes do not accept Chinese Government Scholarship students. The 2026 ZJU-ISM academic master’s freshman award includes selected first-year support; do not assume the same award or coverage for a future intake.
