Clinical & support
Clinical exposure
The programme is 'primary qualifying', meaning HSB itself is solely responsible for the entire course of study, including all practical/clinical training - unlike models where a separate clinical training provider is involved. Students complete a total of 13 practical modules spread across each of the eight semesters, undertaken at cooperating healthcare facilities such as clinics, outpatient care services, counselling centres and palliative-care providers, with HSB coordinating placements. Alongside real-facility placements, the university's Skills Lab/Simulation Centre on its Bremen health campus provides simulated clinical practice with what HSB describes as state-of-the-art equipment, a facility the university states is unique in Germany in this form. Since 1 January 2024, students also need a separate 'training contract' with one of the programme's cooperating clinical institutions (submitted at least four weeks before the first examination phase) in order to receive the training remuneration mandated under Germany's Nursing Studies Strengthening Act; prospective students should contact HSB's programme team or the listed cooperation institutions directly, early in the application process, to secure this contract alongside their university application.
