Clinical exposure
LSMU's BSc Nursing programme has one of the most significant clinical training advantages of any nursing school accessible to Indian students in Europe: direct supervised access to the Hospital of LSMU Kauno Klinikos — the largest clinical hospital in the entire Baltic States region (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania combined). Kauno Klinikos was formed in September 2020 (merger of Kaunas Clinical Hospital and Republican Hospital of Kaunas), with over 1,200 highly qualified doctors, 2,400 nurses and nursing personnel, and over 78,000 patients treated annually. Clinical rotations span medical, surgical, oncology, neurology, interventional radiology, paediatrics, geriatrics, rehabilitation, intensive care, mental health, and community health departments. Additional placement sites include the Kaunas Red Cross Nursing and Palliative Care Hospital (palliative and long-term care), Kaunas Child Development Hospital (paediatric nursing), and community health centres across Kaunas for primary care and community nursing placements. Clinical placements progress year by year: Year 1 — simulation labs and ward observation; Year 2 — supervised patient care in adult medical/surgical wards; Year 3 — specialty rotations across mental health, maternal/child health, community, oncology, and neurology; Year 4 — advanced consolidated placement with preceptor-supervised independent nursing practice and final clinical practice examination. Clinical courses run in groups of up to 10 students — a dramatically better ratio than large Indian nursing colleges. Clinical attendance of 75% is typically mandatory.
