Training & support
Practical training & industry exposure
The Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences (RISES) and its Football Exchange unit work directly with the Premier League, the FA, Manchester United, Liverpool FC and Real Madrid on performance analysis and injury prevention, and LJMU sport scientists provide strength-and-conditioning support to Premier League match officials under a Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) partnership. The Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) owns and operates the Liverpool Telescope, a 2-metre fully robotic telescope on La Palma in the Canary Islands producing around 80 peer-reviewed publications a year, and leads the international New Robotic Telescope project. Nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health) students train through NMC-approved clinical placements with NHS trusts across Merseyside and Cheshire using on-campus clinical practice suites with hospital-standard simulation equipment, including a birthing simulator. Law students can join the award-winning Legal Advice Centre for supervised pro bono casework, and the LLB is recognised by the Bar Standards Board as satisfying the academic stage for qualifying as a barrister. Engineering students (Mechanical, Civil) study on professionally accredited, design-led courses with access to engine-test facilities, materials laboratories and digital design studios; the Civil Engineering programme is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators for the Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Structural Engineers.
