Clinical & support
Clinical exposure
Clinical exposure begins in Year 1 with a summer clinical clerkship and increases each year: Year 3 introduces bedside teaching in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics in small groups, each year from 2 to 5 ending in a further summer clerkship, and Year 6 is dedicated entirely to clinical training. Required rotations run through JU-owned facilities: the University Hospital (opened 2019), Children's University Hospital, Orthopedic-Rehabilitation University Hospital and the University Dental Clinic. Clinical training makes up 50-74% of the full programme per the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools. Final-year elective rotations are available through Global Health Learning Opportunities, a 30-plus medical-school consortium developed with the US Association of American Medical Colleges, alongside cooperation with the National Board of Medical Examiners and optional USMLE-readiness self-assessment testing. Graduation requires at least 360 ECTS credits, and admission is decided solely by a competitive, timed entrance examination rather than an interview.
