Clinical exposure
Many Ulster degrees carry an optional or compulsory placement year (Diploma in Professional Practice, DPP) with employers such as Kainos, Citi, BBC NI, Allstate NI, Fujitsu, FinTrU and Titanic Foundation. Ulster Business School's FinTrU Talent Hub connects Magee/Derry~Londonderry students directly with North West employers, and Seagate Technology leads the Smart Nano NI consortium with Ulster on data and nanotechnology research placements spanning Derry~Londonderry to Belfast. Computer Science and Software Engineering (Magee) place most full-time students in a compulsory Year 3 industry placement of at least 25 weeks; Accounting and Finance & Investment Management students may take an optional placement between Years 2 and 3. Pharmacy (MPharm) and Biomedical Science students complete supervised clinical and laboratory placements required for General Pharmaceutical Council/Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland and Institute of Biomedical Science registration respectively, and the Belfast School of Architecture's MArch culminates in a Belfast-based design thesis engaging the city directly.
