Hospital-based clinical placements begin at RCSI-affiliated teaching hospitals, alongside a simulation module and a Student Selected research or audit project.
Years 4-5: Preparation for Practice
Full-time clinical team placements across Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Surgery, Paediatrics and General Practice, concluding with a mandatory sub-internship clerkship.

The Direct Entry Medicine programme runs across three stages -- Foundation of Practice (Years 1-2), Integration into Practice (Year 3), and Preparation for Practice (Years 4-5) -- with a preceding Foundation Year for the 6-year track. Clinical placements from Year 3 run across RCSI's teaching hospitals, including Beaumont Hospital, Connolly Hospital, the Rotunda Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, Cavan and Monaghan Hospital, and Louth County Hospital, alongside a wider affiliated network including the National Maternity Hospital and Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin. Year 4 places students full-time on hospital clinical teams across Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Surgery, Paediatrics and General Practice, and Year 5 concludes with a sub-internship clerkship. Graduates who complete Ireland's 12-month intern year and receive a Certificate of Experience are exempt from the Irish Medical Council's PRES pre-registration exam before full registration.
