Dalian Maritime University: FAQ

Standard master applicants need a valid bachelor’s degree, good physical and mental health and age 18–40. English evidence can be recognised IELTS/TOEFL-type proof or an English-medium undergraduate certificate, with a stated exemption for official-English-language applicants. Those without certificates must pass DMU’s equivalent English test. The standard guide does not state a numeric test minimum.

The standard plan must exceed 1,000 Chinese characters or English words and clearly state the intended research direction, academic and work background, research, goals and plans. Two professor or associate-professor recommendations are listed. Clear direction matters for the college’s supervisor assignment; a separate mandatory pre-acceptance letter is not established in the standard list.

Prepare the degree certificate/transcript, passport pages, English evidence, plan and recommendations, recent physical examination, blood-test report, non-criminal record and photograph. Other-language documents need notarised Chinese/English translations. Self-funded applicants need a bank deposit certificate in their own name of at least CNY 50,000 or equivalent. The master poster also gives four-year foreign-nationality and two-year overseas-residence evidence for applicable Chinese-origin applicants.

The 2027 English master references are CNY 30,000 annually for Science/Engineering and CNY 28,000 for Law/Management. The non-refundable application fee is CNY 600; annual tuition is payable in full without instalments. Study materials are quoted at CNY 1,000–1,500 and insurance at CNY 800 per year. Final charges follow the university’s offer and instructions.

Yihua Building I annual single-room references are CNY 8,400 standard, CNY 12,000 superior and CNY 18,000 premium. Building II singles are CNY 14,000 or CNY 16,000 superior; doubles CNY 9,000 per person annually. Confirm allocation. Sufficient insurance covering accidental injury, outpatient, emergency and hospital care is required throughout study; missing insurance evidence may prevent registration.

CSC master applicants need a bachelor’s degree and must be under 35. English evidence is IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 90 or an English-medium certificate plus DMU’s internal written/interview test; official-English-language applicants have the stated proof exemption. Confirm the exact scholarship subject catalogue before applying. Conditional support covers two-year English tuition, free on-campus accommodation, CNY 3,000 monthly living allowance and comprehensive insurance. International travel is excluded, and overlapping scholarships except lump-sum rewards are prohibited.

The 2027 deadline is 31 January 2027. Apply online through CSC only, Type B, agency 10151; do not repeat the application through DMU’s portal. Send all required documents and the 2027 checklist as a ZIP to study@dlmu.edu.cn with the prescribed application serial-number subject. Following approval, upload the signed pre-admission letter to CSC. Employed applicants also provide employment proof, and the passport must expire after September 2027.

It is a separate WMU Master of Science in Maritime Affairs, specialising in Maritime Safety and Environmental Management, delivered in Dalian with DMU. The Academic Handbook Entry 2027 specifies 14 months and 80 credits, including a 20-credit dissertation. Its entry, grading and quality-assurance rules are WMU’s; native DMU tuition and CSC conditions are not automatically transferred.

WMU seeks applicants established in maritime careers, with a relevant bachelor’s degree and/or the highest unrestricted master-mariner or chief-engineer competency certificate. English guidelines include IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80+ on the 0–120 scale or 4–6 on the new scale; the board evaluates other permitted evidence. The 2027 handbook expects CNY 115,000 tuition for the whole programme and at least around CNY 60,000 whole-period living costs, subject to confirmation.

The native standard brochure gives a general annual 30 June deadline; exact opening and commencement require confirmation. Standard applications use dlmu.17gz.org. CSC instead follows its 31 January 2027 deadline and CSC-plus-email process. WMU’s handbook describes an annual May-to-July 14-month programme, but the next specific deadline/start date is not established here; use its MSEM programme office.
