Campus life, Indian student community, food options, and day-to-day living at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science in Chennai.
The Padur campus combines academic blocks, departmental laboratories, a library and sports facilities. Students have indoor recreation spaces, an open-air arena and campus cafés. The university traces its origin to Hindustan College of Engineering in 1985 and received deemed-to-be university status in 2008.
Separate boys’ and girls’ hostels offer shared AC and non-AC rooms, with attached or common bathrooms. The 2026–27 handbook names Jupiter and off-campus Orient for boys, and Kasturba, Bethany, Susan and Pluto for girls. Rooms are allocated subject to availability. Hostel fees are payable for the full academic year; request the current room, deposit and mess quotation before booking.
Campus dining options include Garage Café, Breeze Canteen, an Amul Ice Cream Parlour and Fresh Crush. Hostel dining follows fixed meal times, and private cooking in rooms is prohibited. A specific vegetarian, halal or allergy-safe meal commitment has not been established; confirm dietary needs before choosing a mess plan.
The campus clinic provides doctors on working days, a nurse around the clock, four observation beds and emergency ambulance access. Hostel teams include wardens, managers and security staff; leave and visitor permissions apply.
International Student Affairs coordinates overseas admission and student support. Hostel wardens and the Hostel Student Council handle residential issues and complaints. Students Traffic can help review programme fit, qualification documents and admission-category questions.
