Which programmes can international students study in English?

Accepted Answer

The 2027 catalogue lists eight English master’s subjects: Aquaculture, Biology, Fishery Resources, Marine Science, daily living Science and Engineering, Fishery Economics and Management, Machinery, and Foreign Languages and Literatures. All 12 undergraduate entries are Chinese taught. An English tuition category does not establish a current English undergraduate route.

Question 2

How long is the English master’s programme?

Accepted Answer

The exact 2027 master’s table gives three years. Doctoral programmes are separately listed as four years and are outside this master’s portfolio. Programme choice, supervisor and final training requirements should be checked before accepting an offer.

Question 3

What degree and age conditions apply?

Accepted Answer

The 2027 general prospectus requires a bachelor’s degree or above and age no more than 30 for master’s applicants, together with non-Chinese citizenship, good health and good academic performance. CSC and SGS guides additionally state GPA above 3.0; that numeric condition is attached to those funding routes.

Question 4

What English score is required?

Accepted Answer

The general English-taught requirement is IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80 or above within the previous two years. Other certificates may require supplementary proof. Native English speakers provide a signed statement confirming English as their mother tongue or their country’s official language. A general exemption for earlier English-medium education is not established here.

Question 5

Must I find a supervisor first?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The university requires master’s applicants to contact a potential supervisor, obtain approval and discuss the research plan before application. The submitted proposal needs the SHOU supervisor’s electronic signature. Contacting a supervisor is also expressly mandatory for the Area Studies programme.

Question 6

When should I apply for September 2027?

Accepted Answer

The prospectus gives 1 February 2027 for master’s scholarship applications and 30 May 2027 for self-funded programmes. Students are required to study in Shanghai in September 2027, with no deferral for new students. The exact reporting date follows the admission letter.

Question 7

What tuition and other charges should I budget for?

Accepted Answer

The 2027 prospectus quotes CNY 31,000 tuition per year for English master’s study, a CNY 400 non-refundable application fee and insurance at CNY 400 per semester or CNY 800 per year. Housing and other living costs are separate. Scholarship coverage depends on the actual award and should not be assumed before selection.

Question 8

Which master’s subjects appear in the CSC guide?

Accepted Answer

The current CSC High-level Postgraduate guide names Aquaculture, Biology, Fishery Resources, Marine Science, daily living Science and Engineering, Fishery Economics and Management, and Machinery, alongside separate Chinese-taught entries. Question 9

How do SGS and the language college scholarship differ?

Accepted Answer

SGS has its own subject list and competitive conditions. Its Type A covers tuition, double-room accommodation, insurance and a CNY 3,000 monthly master’s stipend; Type B covers tuition and insurance. Machinery is not named in its current list. The separate English Area Studies notice advertises SHOU University Scholarship Type A with full tuition, accommodation, CNY 800 monthly allowance and insurance; it is a different funding route.

Question 10

Are Chinese-language or publication requirements relevant to English study?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The general prospectus requires agreement to Chinese-language and research-paper graduation requirements. The current CSC guide expressly mentions HSK 3 and SCI papers. Ask the supervisor for the exact programme and award rules before enrolment; English teaching does not remove graduation conditions.

Question 11

What accommodation is available?

Accepted Answer

The prospectus describes on-campus international student apartments with single and double rooms. Annual double-room prices are CNY 6,600, 10,000 or 7,500 by apartment; annual single-room prices are CNY 13,200, 20,000 or 15,000. Optional bedding is CNY 380 per set.
