Accepted Answer

It is a public state university created by Tamil Nadu Act No. 33 of 2008, which took effect on 1 July 2008. It appears in the UGC state-university register with 2(f) and 12(B) status and is not a private or deemed university.

Question 2

Which programmes are taught at the Karapakkam campus?

Accepted Answer

The six university departments jointly teach one common two-year M.Ed.; the same departments also offer M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Education. B.Ed., B.Ed. Special Education, B.A.B.Ed., B.Sc.B.Ed. and M.Ed. Special Education are affiliated-college programmes, not campus-department degrees.

Question 3

What are the M.Ed. eligibility requirements?

Accepted Answer

Applicants need at least 50% aggregate marks in theory and practicum, or an equivalent grade, in B.Ed., B.A.B.Ed., B.Sc.B.Ed. or B.El.Ed. Reservation and relaxation follow the applicable Central or State Government rules. Admission uses qualifying-examination marks plus an entrance examination or another selection process set by the State Government, Central Government or university.

Question 4

How long is the M.Ed. and how is it structured?

Accepted Answer

It is a two-year, four-semester CBCS programme of 90 credits, with a maximum of three years to complete and 100 working days per semester. Study covers perspective, tool, teacher-education, core-specialisation and thematic courses, with field immersion, a teacher-education field visit, a school internship, practicum and a dissertation.

Question 5

What does the 2026-27 M.Ed. cost?

Accepted Answer

The official notification sets tuition at INR 5,945 for the first year and INR 4,640 for the second year, a total of INR 10,585. The online application fee is INR 100, or INR 50 for SC/ST/PWD applicants. campus logistics charges, eligibility fees and living costs are separate and are not included in the tuition figure.

Question 6

How do I apply for the 2026-27 M.Ed.?

Accepted Answer

Use the university's online M.Ed. application portal linked from the 2026-27 notification; the brochure also advertises online and offline applications. Complete the form, submit the required certificates as the portal instructs and pay the application fee. The notification PDF reviewed states no closing date, so confirm the live portal window before paying.

Question 7

Which documents does the M.Ed. application require?

Accepted Answer

The form lists a transfer certificate, UG degree or provisional, PG degree or provisional, B.Ed. degree or provisional, B.Ed. mark statement, community certificate, two passport-size photographs and a PWD certificate if applicable. Keep originals for verification and check whether the portal wants scanned copies before submitting.

Question 8

Is the M.Ed. taught in English?

Accepted Answer

That is not established. The regulations say the medium of instruction and examination is Tamil or English depending on the medium available in the Colleges of Education or University Departments. No separate statement confirms the Karapakkam department's language, so this profile does not default to English; ask the department before applying.

Question 9

When does the 2026-27 M.Ed. first year begin?

Accepted Answer

No first-year class-start date is published in the 2026-27 notification. A 1 September 2025 commencement circular exists, but it is addressed to affiliated-college principals, so it cannot be applied to the university departments. Confirm the department's reporting date and orientation schedule after admission.

Question 10

Is the M.Ed. recognised by NCTE?

Accepted Answer

Yes. NCTE's Tamil Nadu regional list records the university's M.Ed. with intake 50, order date 2 May 2017, session 2017-18 and order type Revised Recognition. The university also holds UGC 2(f) and 12(B) status and NAAC Grade A with CGPA 3.17 in its first cycle.

Question 11

Can international or NRI students apply?

Accepted Answer

No separate international or NRI admission route, fee or visa process is published for the university-department M.Ed. The 2026-27 notification and application are domestic in structure, although the form asks nationality. Applicants with foreign qualifications should ask the university about equivalence and residency before relying on the domestic process.

Question 12

Is campus logistics accommodation available?

Accepted Answer

Separate men's and women's campus logistics are advertised in the 2026-27 M.Ed. notification. The university publishes a campus logistics application form and an online campus logistics-fee page, but not room types, charges, meal arrangements details or a room guarantee. Apply early and obtain written allotment and payment terms before travelling.

Question 13

Is M.Phil. currently open for admission?

Accepted Answer

No 2026-27 M.Phil. admission notification was found, even though the site menu still lists M.Phil. The published M.Phil. students list contains only 2020 and 2021 entrants, and no current fee or regulations page was located. Treat the menu entry as historical until the university issues a current notice.
