Is the Premed-MD programme direct-entry after high school?

Yes. The WHO World Directory of Medical Schools separately lists TAU's 5.5-Year BSMD Program as direct-entry (prerequisite: completed secondary education, no entrance exam), distinct from the university's separate 4-year graduate-entry MD, which requires a prior undergraduate degree.

Can Indian students with 12th-grade marks apply directly?

Yes. The university's own eligibility criteria explicitly list Indian Board examinations as a recognized qualification, requiring a minimum 50% aggregate across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English and one additional elective.

How is the programme structured?

A Guyana-based Pre-Medical phase (1.5 years), a Guyana-based Basic Science phase (2 years), and a Clinical Science phase (2 years) primarily completed at teaching hospitals in the United States, totaling 5.5 years.

Is there an entrance exam?

No. The WHO World Directory of Medical Schools confirms no entrance exam is required for the direct-entry Premed-MD track; the university's Texila Medical Admission Test (TMAT) and Multiple Mini Interviews apply only to its separate graduate-entry 4-Year MD Program.

What is the current tuition fee?

USD 9,000 per semester for Guyana-based semesters and USD 15,750 per semester for US-based clinical semesters, confirmed on the official tuition page; additional exam, insurance, visa and graduation fees also apply. US-based clinical training carries roughly a USD 27,000 premium over the full clinical phase compared to completing it in Guyana.

Are scholarships available?

Yes. TAU publishes a Global Citizen Grant (10-20% tuition reduction for international students) and other merit-based awards, though most named scholarships are Caribbean-exam-linked or US-pathway-specific; confirm current eligibility for Indian applicants directly with the university.

When can I start and what is the intake schedule?

Two intakes per year, March and September; for 2026, classes begin 23 March and 28 September, with registration closing shortly before each start date.

Is university accommodation available?

Yes, university-managed off-campus housing near the Guyana campus is available, though no specific rate card is published; TAU's own cost-of-living guidance estimates private shared housing at roughly USD 400-500/month.

Can graduates practice medicine outside Guyana?

Graduates are eligible to apply for ECFMG Certification (US pathway) and the university states its programme is recognized by Canada's Medical Council. The university also makes detailed claims about compliance with India's National Medical Commission FMGE/NExT requirements for Indian students, but these are self-reported by the university and were not independently verified against an official NMC source.
