Campus life, Indian student community, food options, and day-to-day living at University of Milan in Milan.
The university is distributed across an urban Milan network rather than a single enclosed campus. The historic Ca’ Granda complex on Via Festa del Perdono anchors the central academic identity, while faculties and research facilities extend through Città Studi, Sesto San Giovanni and Lodi. The 2026/27 undergraduate catalogue lists both Milan and satellite locations, including Pavia, Venice and Lodi for particular programmes. Students should check the course sheet for the teaching venue, learning mode and any inter-university structure before arranging housing.
Accommodation is not one universal university guarantee. Students commonly compare regional right-to-study residences, university-linked services and private rooms or shared apartments across Milan. Because locations differ between the historic centre, Città Studi, Sesto San Giovanni and Lodi, the practical housing choice depends on the programme’s teaching site. The university’s right-to-study information links accommodation and canteen support to eligibility and financial documentation; availability and deadlines should be checked for the relevant academic year.
Milan has a large international food market, supermarkets and restaurants, including South Asian, halal and other dietary options across the metropolitan area. This is city infrastructure rather than a university meal-plan promise. Students using subsidised canteens should verify menus and allergen procedures with the current right-to-study service, and students living outside central Milan should plan grocery and travel routines around their actual campus location.
The University of Milan is embedded in a large metropolitan city, so normal urban precautions apply: protect valuables on crowded public transport, verify accommodation contracts, and keep residence-permit documents secure. International students should use the university’s official international-enrolment guidance and InformaStudenti support for document and status questions. Emergency, health-insurance and residence-permit procedures are national or regional processes and should be checked against current Italian government instructions rather than inferred from the university page.

International applicants use the university’s enrolment and international-student guidance, programme-specific calls, the Unimi application services and InformaStudenti support. Non-EU applicants resident abroad must follow the Universitaly pre-enrolment route where applicable; the university states that visa applicants need B2 proficiency in the language of instruction. Master’s applicants must check the programme’s academic requirements and document-verification route, while doctoral applicants apply through the public competition and online enrolment process in the relevant call.
