Is the University of Tartu Medicine programme taught in English?

Yes. The University describes the six-year Medicine curriculum as fully in English. Estonian language courses are compulsory because clinical communication with local patients requires Estonian.

How long is the Medicine curriculum?

It is an integrated six-year programme worth 360 ECTS and leads to the Degree in Medicine.

What is the published 2026/27 tuition?

The curriculum page lists EUR 13,200 per year. Housing, health cover, immigration and personal living costs are separate from tuition.

How are applicants assessed?

The 2026 process used an English motivation letter, an online physics and chemistry test, and an interview. Their published weights were 20%, 60% and 20% respectively.

What scores are needed for interview consideration?

The University stated that the written motivation letter and online test each had to score at least 51 out of 100 before an applicant could be considered for interview.

When does the academic year begin?

For the verified 2026 cycle, the academic year began on 31 August. The next intake dates must be taken from a new official call.

Where does clinical learning take place?

The University identifies Tartu University Hospital as the setting for clinical learning with actual patients. It describes the hospital as Estonia's largest healthcare provider and only academic hospital.

Is accommodation guaranteed?

No. The University has a dormitory route managed by Tartu Student Village, but no Medicine-specific allocation guarantee or current standard room price was confirmed in this package.

Do non-EU applicants receive tuition-waiver places?

The University policy states that new applicants from outside the EU/EEA do not receive tuition-waiver places from 2026/27. This does not establish a separate Medicine scholarship.

Does graduation guarantee a medical licence abroad?

No. The University states that graduates can pursue residency in Estonia or abroad, but professional registration, language, examination, immigration and residency requirements are determined by the destination authority.
