Campus life, Indian student community, food options, and day-to-day living at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty.
The KazNU campus sits in downtown Almaty, overlooking the Trans-Ili Alatau mountain range, and spans 16 faculties, 64 departments and 8 research institutes. The university ranked around 150th in the QS World University Rankings and around 44th in QS Asia (2023), Kazakhstan's highest-ranked institution. International-student infrastructure includes a dedicated Department of Internationalization and Recruitment and the 'Keremet' Student Service Center.
KazNU's infrastructure includes on-campus dormitories, but no official, currently-dated per-student dormitory tariff for foreign Medicine students is published on the university's site. Applicants should request current accommodation costs directly from the Department of Internationalization and Recruitment before budgeting.
No specific on-campus meal plan or dining-cost figure is published for international Medicine students. Daily food and living costs should be planned as a separate budget line, alongside the mandatory medical insurance the university requires for the full period of study and stay in Kazakhstan.
International students must complete a medical examination under Kazakhstan's migration law and register with the Department of Internationalization and Recruitment within two days of arrival. No separate campus safety statement is published on the university's official pages.
The Department of Internationalization and Recruitment handles foreign-student registration and visa formalities, while the 'Keremet' Student Service Center bundles educational, medical, social and psychological-support services. The Glossa Center and British Educational and Research Center offer Kazakh, Russian and English language-preparation courses.
