Is Al-Farabi Kazakh National University the same as "Al-Farabi Kazakh National Medical University"?

No -- that name is a common but incorrect third-party label. The correct official name is Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and its medical degree is housed within the university's own Faculty of Medicine and Health Care, distinct from the separate Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, also in Almaty.

Does the university have a genuine, government-recognized medical degree?

Yes. Its Faculty of Medicine and Health Care's Medicine bachelor's programme is nationally accredited by ECAQA (valid through 2030) and is listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools under the qualification title Physician (General Medicine).

Is the programme direct-entry from secondary school?

Yes. Per the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools listing, admission follows completion of secondary education, with no separate prior bachelor's degree required.

How long is the programme?

The university's own current curriculum page shows 12 semesters (6 academic years). A related, older programme code recorded in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools shows 5 years, so applicants should reconfirm the exact current duration directly with the admissions office.

Is teaching available in English?

Yes. The university states that English-medium study in Healthcare requires a certificate of English proficiency and interview-based admission, confirming a genuine English-medium track alongside Kazakh and Russian instruction.

What is the 2026-2027 tuition fee for Indian or other foreign students?

Per the university's official fee schedule, the Medicine programme for 'far abroad' foreign nationals (the category applicable to Indian students) is 2,600,000 KZT per year in the English-medium track, or 2,400,000 KZT per year in Kazakh or Russian.

When can international students apply?

The university's Foreign Applicants page lists an Autumn intake (documents due 15 May to 20 August) with the academic year typically starting in September; a separate Spring window exists university-wide but is not confirmed as Medicine-specific.

Do Indian students still need to meet NEET-UG and NMC requirements?

Yes. India's National Medical Commission Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 require, among other conditions, a minimum 54-month English-medium foreign course plus a 12-month internship at the same institution, followed by India's National Exit Test. Applicants should verify current requirements directly with NMC before enrolling.

Is there a dedicated support office for international students?

Yes -- the Department of Internationalization and Recruitment handles foreign-student registration and visa formalities, and the university's 'Keremet' Student Service Center offers medical, social and psychological-support services on campus.

What happens after completing the Medicine bachelor's degree?

Kazakhstan's system separately requires a further mandatory one-year clinical internship, listed by the university as a distinct programme, before a graduate is qualified to practice -- applicants should factor this into their total study timeline.
