Question 1

Is Government College of Technology a public institution?

Accepted Answer

GCT is a Tamil Nadu government engineering college in Coimbatore, established in 1945. It is autonomous and affiliated to Anna University; it is not Coimbatore Institute of Technology.

Question 2

Which undergraduate engineering fields are available?

Accepted Answer

Full-time study includes Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Production, Electronics and Instrumentation, Computer Science, CSE with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Information Technology and Industrial Biotechnology. The standard first-year route lasts four years; each branch has a separate TNEA choice code.

Question 3

What language is used for teaching?

Accepted Answer

English is used for undergraduate courses, examinations, seminar presentations and project reports. The general entry criteria are academic and counselling requirements, not an advertised IELTS or TOEFL pathway.

Question 4

Can applicants enter immediately after Class 12?

Accepted Answer

The first-year academic route accepts HSC +1 and +2 or equivalent with the required Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry marks. TNEA 2026 requires 45% average for General and 40% for the listed reserved categories; specified vocational qualifications provide another route. A qualifying score alone does not guarantee allotment.

Question 5

How does the application route work?

Accepted Answer

Apply through TNEA and complete certificate verification before choice filling. Select Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, college code 2005, and the intended branch code. Seat allotment and confirmation follow the counselling process; GCT does not operate a management-quota route.

Question 6

Can international or other-state applicants use this route?

Accepted Answer

The standard TNEA route is restricted by nationality and Tamil Nadu schooling, nativity or specified parental-service rules. Narrow exceptions cover eligible Tamil Nadu native OCI/PIO applicants and Sri Lankan Tamil refugees educated in Tamil Nadu. This is not an unrestricted foreign-national admission route, and other-state applicants are not automatically eligible.

Question 7

What does undergraduate tuition cover?

Accepted Answer

For the non-first-graduate BC/MBC category, tuition is INR 2,000 per academic year in 2026–27. It is only one component: development, special, computer and other listed college charges bring the relevant fee-certificate amount to INR 6,780, before examinations and accommodation. First-year admission deposits and university charges must be budgeted separately.

Question 8

Are fee concessions the same as a free degree?

Accepted Answer

No. First-graduate and SC/ST fee schedules remove the tuition component but retain other charges; further concessions depend on the applicant category. Scholarship and tuition-concession eligibility must be matched to the actual documents and family circumstances rather than assumed from a low tuition figure.

Question 9

What accommodation and daily living costs should be planned?

Accepted Answer

Men’s and women’s campus logistics are available. The 2026–27 campus logistics certificate gives INR 7,000 a year in establishment, development, amenities and electrical-maintenance charges, with approximate boarding of INR 2,800 per month; its eleven-month campus logistics-and-boarding estimate is INR 37,800. Admission deposits, room allocation and any extra charges remain separate.

Question 10

How is practical learning organised?

Accepted Answer

Undergraduate study combines laboratory courses, branch subjects, electives and project work. Electronics and Instrumentation has Process Control, Control System, Industrial Instrumentation, Industrial Automation, and Sensors and Transducers laboratories. Industrial Biotechnology combines bioprocess-related study with industrial visits and project or summer-training activity.

Question 11

Are working-professional and postgraduate routes identical to first-year entry?

Accepted Answer

No. Working-professional B.E. regulations describe a seven-semester diploma-entry route in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. M.E. study has a separate postgraduate selection process and a four-semester structure; neither should be treated as the standard Class 12 TNEA route.

Question 12

What recognition is verified for the college?

Accepted Answer

The University Grants Commission lists Government College of Technology under Sections 2(f) and 12B. Current institutional affiliation is with Anna University. Programme-specific accreditation must be interpreted by exact branch and validity period; this institutional listing does not mean every programme holds the same accreditation.
