Government College of Technology is a public, autonomous engineering college on Thadagam Road in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Affiliated to Anna University, it offers undergraduate engineering and technology degrees, postgraduate engineering specialisations and research study. First-year undergraduate entry follows Tamil Nadu’s counselling rules rather than a management-quota application.
The campus combines engineering departments with a central library, digital-library access and student clubs. The library provides an online catalogue, reference collection, NPTEL and SWAYAM learning resources, reprography and career-preparation material. Academic study is supported by branch laboratories and project work rather than classroom teaching alone.

Men’s and women’s hostels are available. The 2026–27 hostel schedule has establishment INR 2,750, development INR 3,250, amenities INR 500 and electrical maintenance INR 500 per year. Boarding is estimated at INR 2,800 per month; the college’s eleven-month hostel-and-boarding estimate is INR 37,800. Admission deposits and room allocation are separate, so this is not an all-inclusive degree budget.
The 2026 TNEA college profile identifies vegetarian messes for both men’s and women’s hostels. Boarding is billed separately from tuition, with the current fee certificate using an approximate monthly figure rather than a guaranteed fixed food budget. Day scholars also have a non-residential students’ canteen.
GCT maintains an Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad, a Students Grievance Redressal Committee, an Internal Complaints Committee and a Women Empowerment Cell. Hostel residence is governed by separate boarding and visiting rules; students should plan around those rules rather than assume unrestricted access.
Faculty advisers monitor academic progress and attendance under the degree regulations. The library supports self-study, competitive-exam preparation and academic referencing; grievance and equal-opportunity channels provide additional support. Students Traffic counselling can help map the correct admission route and fee category.
