Covering admissions, fees, recognition, eligibility, hostel, career outcomes, and the India-return pathway — everything you need before making your decision.
Is Lovely Professional University public or private?
It is a state private university. LPU was established in Punjab by the Lovely Professional University Act, 2005, which received the Governor's assent on 23 December 2005, and it is recognised by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, with recognition also accorded under Section 12(B).
What language are the programmes taught in?
English is the medium of instruction across LPU's regular programmes, with no later switch to Hindi or Punjabi. LPU states that it will not be accountable for academic difficulty caused by weak English, gives no exam relaxation on language grounds, and may require a student to take its English Language Programme alongside the regular degree or move the student to another programme.
Do international applicants need to sit an entrance exam?
No. LPU states that international students do not take an additional qualifying examination; eligibility and the scholarship band are decided on marks in the last qualification completed. LPUNEST, JEE (Main), CMAT and CUET belong to the Indian-national admission route. LPUIST, the International Scholarship Test, is optional and affects only the scholarship band.
What are the English language requirements?
Every international applicant must satisfy one of five routes regardless of programme: a pass in English at Grade 10 or a higher examination; proof that the eligibility qualification or higher was taught in English; IELTS band 5.5; TOEFL 70 or the equivalent in another TOEFL format; or a Certificate for Proficiency in English lasting at least three months.
Do the entry requirements change depending on my country?
The 50 per cent threshold and the English requirement are constant, but the qualification named changes. LPU runs requirement pages for 25 origin countries plus a Non-Resident Indian track. Nepal is assessed on the Secondary Education Examination and Higher Secondary Education, Bangladesh on the Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate, and Nigeria and Ghana on grade 10 / O Level and the 12th Grade Graduation Certificate.
How much is tuition and does it depend on nationality?
Yes, three per-semester tiers are published. For B.Tech. CSE the SAARC tier is INR 160,000, the Africa and selected-countries tier USD 2,500 and the all-other-countries tier USD 4,000; the MBA is INR 220,000, USD 3,000 and USD 4,500. A one-time uniform charge, an examination fee each semester and a one-time admission processing fee are added on top.
How is the NRI fee and scholarship track different?
The NRI page carries its own scholarship scale, which is materially harder than the foreign-national scale. It awards 60 per cent for 98 per cent or above in Grade 12, 50 per cent for 95-97.99 per cent, 40 per cent for 90-94.99 per cent and 30 per cent for 80-89.99 per cent, against 90, 75 and 60 per cent thresholds on the foreign-national scale. Children of NRIs and PIO card holders also do not need to obtain a student visa.
What does on-campus accommodation cost?
Residential charges for academic session 2026-2027 are published by room category for the full year. With the Early Decision Benefit valid to 31 August 2026 they run from INR 73,000 or USD 870 for an air-cooled six-to-eight-seater to INR 193,000 or USD 2,295 for a one-seater studio apartment. Rupee rates apply to the six SAARC countries and dollar rates elsewhere; after the deadline each category rises by INR 10,000 or USD 120.
How do I apply and what does the process produce?
Register on the LPU INTADMIT portal, complete the form and upload the qualifying-exam documents. An Offer Letter or Conditional Offer Letter usually follows within three working days. After the provisional registration fee is transferred and the signed Acceptance of Offer Letter, payment proof and passport copy are uploaded, LPU issues the Acceptance Letter. Only the Acceptance Letter is accepted for the Indian student-visa application.
When does the session start and what is the application deadline?
Batch 2026 international admissions opened on 25 October 2025, and LPU publishes 31 August 2026 as the last date to apply with scholarship. The session commences in the third week of July, with exact reporting dates issued per programme. MBA applicants report earlier: compulsory pre-term classes begin on 30 July 2026 and classes start on 10 August 2026.
Can I work part-time in India while studying at LPU?
No. The Bureau of Immigration states that foreigners on a student visa must not involve themselves in any employment or business activity in India, and LPU repeats that a visa issued in its name cannot be used for employment or for admission elsewhere. Budgeting should assume tuition, residence and living costs are met from savings, family support or scholarship.
What immigration steps apply after arrival?
Student-visa holders staying beyond 180 days must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer within 14 days of arrival, using passport, visa page, bonafide certificate, local address proof and a photograph. Foreign students are also required to open a Non-Resident Ordinary bank account and give the details to the FRRO. LPU's Division of International Affairs at Block 32, Room 308 assists with registration and extension.
What do the accreditations actually cover?
They are programme-specific. The National Board of Accreditation lists LPU's B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering on its Tier I (Washington Accord) register to 30 June 2027, and the MBA on the Management PG register to the same date. ICAR accreditation covers the School of Agriculture's B.Sc. (Hons.) and eight M.Sc. awards. Pharmacy and architecture carry PCI and COA approval. LPU's law courses do not currently hold a Bar Council of India approval window running past 2025-26, so no LPU law programme is listed on this page.
