Question 1

Which institution does this page cover?

Accepted Answer

Madras Christian College is the autonomous arts and science college in East Tambaram, Chennai, affiliated to the University of Madras. This page covers its supported regular undergraduate routes. Community colleges, MCC Boyd Tandon School of Business and external innovation-park partners require separate admission and programme checks.

Question 2

Is MCC autonomous and how is it ranked?

Accepted Answer

The UGC autonomous-college register lists MCC with autonomous status from 2024-25 to 2033-34 and University of Madras affiliation. NIRF 2025 places it 16th in the College category. That ranking is an institutional comparison, not approval of a particular professional programme or a promise of outcomes.

Question 3

What subjects do I need in Class 12?

Accepted Answer

Several arts, media and social-work programmes accept any qualifying group, while commerce requires Commerce/Business Studies and Accountancy. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry degrees require the specified science subjects. Biology-related programmes and BCA have their own subject lists; check the exact programme entry rather than using a college-wide rule.

Question 4

Can I apply using Class 10 or Class 11 marks?

Accepted Answer

No. The current UG admission instructions require the qualifying Class 12 result and explicitly reject Class 10 or Class 11 marks as substitutes. The verification checklist may also request Class 11 records, but that does not replace the Class 12 qualification required for admission.

Question 5

What language is used for teaching?

Accepted Answer

The institutional SSR dated 11 April 2019 records English for the supported established titles and both English and Tamil for B.A. Tamil. Current 2026 listings confirm those programmes continue. This is historical language evidence, not a new 2026 policy; confirm current teaching arrangements before applying. A bilingual listing does not guarantee a separate English-only section.

Question 6

When did first-year classes begin?

Accepted Answer

The Principal’s notice of 20 June 2026 says first-year UG classes commence on 22 June 2026, with orientation at Anderson Hall at 8:15 a.m. for the aided stream and 1:15 p.m. for SFS. This identifies the 2026-27 cycle and does not announce a future intake or confirm that applications remain open.

Question 7

How do I apply?

Accepted Answer

Use the official online portal, register, select the exact degree and stream, enter the required marks and complete payment. Selected applicants receive communication through their registered mobile number and email. Follow the provisional offer for original-document verification, payment and enrolment; the college does not sell offline application forms or accept admission donations.

Question 8

Do other boards need an eligibility certificate?

Accepted Answer

The admission page requires University of Madras eligibility certificates for boards outside its specified exemptions, and for specified private-study and open-school qualifications. The page and checklist differ in how they list some exemptions, so applicants should confirm their exact board category with the college before verification.

Question 9

Is overseas admission included in these entries?

Accepted Answer

These entries describe the verified regular domestic route. MCC has a separate foreign-application portal, but exact programme availability and conditions for foreign, NRI and OCI applicants have not been established here. Contact admissions for an individual route and equivalence assessment before relying on overseas availability.

Question 10

How much is annual tuition?

Accepted Answer

An itemised annual tuition figure is not verified for these exact offerings. The college directs admitted applicants to a first-semester payment portal. Request tuition and compulsory academic charges separately for the chosen degree and aided/self-financed stream, together with accommodation, meals and other living costs.

Question 11

Does admission guarantee accommodation?

Accepted Answer

No. The admission instructions explicitly state that a course offer does not guarantee hall accommodation. Hall applications are separate and follow course enrolment and fee payment. Ask about availability, allocation, full charges, meals and accessibility before making accommodation plans.

Question 12

Does this page establish postgraduate intake?

Accepted Answer

No. MCC publishes postgraduate programmes and course-specific eligibility, but the general reopening calendar does not independently establish first-year postgraduate academic commencement. PG routes require their own verified joining or induction notice before intake is represented here.
