Is the Direct Entry Medicine programme different from Graduate Entry Medicine?
Yes. Direct Entry Medicine (DEM) admits students straight from secondary education; Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) is a separate 4-year programme for applicants who already hold a bachelor's degree. This record covers Direct Entry Medicine only.
What qualification is awarded on graduation?
Graduates receive the MB, BCh, BAO (Hons), a National University of Ireland degree at Level 8 on Ireland's National Framework of Qualifications, accredited by the Irish Medical Council.
How long is the programme?
5 years for applicants exempt from the Foundation Year, or 6 years (including a Foundation Year) for others, based on the applicant's prior secondary-school qualifications as assessed by the Admissions Committee.
What is the current tuition fee?
EUR 61,000 per year for non-EU students, plus a once-off EUR 135 National University of Ireland registration fee (EUR 61,135 total in year one). Non-EU fees have historically risen by roughly 2% a year.
What entrance route does the university use for non-EU applicants?
Non-EU applicants do not sit HPAT-Ireland (that applies only to the Irish/EU school-leaver route). Instead, RCSI assesses non-EU applicants against published country-specific academic criteria, such as A Level AAB including Chemistry, or IB 38+ with Chemistry at Higher Level.
When does the academic year start, and when can I apply?
The single annual intake starts in September. The September 2026 intake has already closed. For September 2027 entry, non-EU applications (excluding USA/Canada) open 1 November 2026 and close 15 January 2027; USA/Canada applicants apply via Atlantic Bridge, opening 1 August 2026.
Is a scholarship available for non-EU Medicine students?
Yes -- the International Consilio Manuque Medicine Scholarship offers EUR 25,000 total, disbursed across the programme (EUR 5,000/year on the 5-year track, EUR 4,167/year on the 6-year track), open to self-funding non-EU students admitted to the programme who have accepted their offer.
Is university accommodation available for international students?
Yes -- RCSI's own Mercer Court residence offers single and twin rooms a short walk from campus, priced per a 41-week lease. Students can contact accommodation@rcsi.ie to apply, or use RCSI Student Services' guidance for private rental.
Do Indian students need NEET to join this programme?
RCSI's own admissions criteria do not reference NEET, though the university advises Indian applicants to separately check India's National Medical Commission requirements. NEET-UG is required for Indian citizens and OCI holders pursuing a primary medical qualification abroad, as the mandatory Eligibility Certificate.
