Glasgow's West End (Byres Road, Great Western Road) has Indian, Pakistani and other South Asian grocers and restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk of Gilmorehill, alongside larger supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's) with Indian food sections. Several student halls, including Murano Street, have self-catered kitchens; the University does not operate a dedicated South Asian dining hall, so students self-cater or use nearby restaurants for regular Indian meals.

Police Scotland records Glasgow's West End, where the campus sits, as a lower-crime residential and student area relative to the city centre. The University's Security Service operates a 24-hour control room and campus patrols, and the Student Support Team, International Student Support office and a University-run out-of-hours helpline are all named contact points for personal-safety concerns. The International Student Support team runs a dedicated International Student Welcome programme covering visa/BRP, banking, GP registration and campus orientation before Welcome Week. The Advice and Support Office covers immigration, funding and wellbeing; the Careers Service and MBA Development Manager provide programme-specific employability support; and the Students' Representative Council runs over 200 clubs and societies.
