Is the MBBS programme direct-entry after high school?

Yes. The WHO World Directory of Medical Schools lists no prior-degree prerequisite and no entrance exam requirement, and the university's standard entry routes are based on GCE A-Level or CAPE-equivalent secondary-school passes.

What qualification is awarded on graduation?

Graduates receive the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree after five years of study, structured as two preclinical years followed by three years of rotational clinical training.

Is CAAM-HP 'Accreditation with Conditions' a red flag?

No. Cross-checking CAAM-HP's own accreditation directory shows this is the standard, steady-state status held by most established, reputable Caribbean medical schools, including the University of the West Indies and Ross University School of Medicine. The University of Guyana has held this or a comparable status continuously since 2008 with no denial or withdrawal.

What is the current tuition fee?

USD 8,853 for the first year, confirmed as the current foreign-student rate, plus a mandatory USD 250 annual facilities fee. The university publishes first-year fees only and states they are subject to change; no official total 5-year cost is published.

How are foreign secondary-school qualifications evaluated?

The university's published admission criteria are keyed primarily to GCE A-Level or CAPE-equivalent passes; how Indian 12th-grade qualifications specifically are equated to this standard is determined case-by-case and is not transparently published, so applicants should confirm directly with Admissions.

When can I apply and when does the academic year start?

The confirmed Semester I 2026/27 application window (30 March-9 May 2026) has already closed. Classes for that semester begin 31 August 2026. It is unconfirmed whether MBBS also admits in Semester II; the next confirmed opportunity should be treated as Semester I 2027/28 pending confirmation with the university.

Is university accommodation available?

Yes. Dennis Irvine Hall of Residence, about five minutes from campus, explicitly prioritizes foreign students, offering single rooms at USD 240/month and double rooms at USD 200/month, plus a refundable USD 50 deposit.

Are scholarships available for international students?

No dedicated scholarship for international students was found; the university's only named undergraduate scholarship (SAGE) is explicitly restricted to Guyanese nationals.

Can this degree be used to practice medicine outside Guyana?

Graduates are eligible to apply for ECFMG Certification, and the degree is noted as acceptable to Canadian medical regulators. Whether non-national graduates need to sit CAMC exams for Guyana internship registration is not explicitly clarified by the Medical Council of Guyana. For India specifically, graduates would need to separately satisfy India's National Medical Commission FMGE/NExT screening requirements; this was not independently verified against a Guyana-specific NMC ruling.
