Halls sit at College Lane (original site) and de Havilland. For 2025/26, College Lane standard single rooms run about GBP153-159/week (42/50-week contracts) and single en-suite rooms GBP211-220/week; de Havilland single rooms with private bathroom and shared kitchen start around GBP204/week, and twin en-suite (shared) rooms are the cheapest option from around GBP134/week. Rooms are typically let on 42- or 50-week contracts covering most of the academic year. Private rented shared houses in Hatfield and nearby Welwyn Garden City are also common from second year onward and are generally cheaper than halls; confirm bills-included status before signing.

Halls are self-catered, so students shop and cook using Hatfield's supermarkets, high-street shops and on-campus Students' Union outlets. Halal, vegetarian and vegan groceries are available at Hatfield's main supermarkets, and both campuses have food courts and cafes. Students with specific dietary needs should confirm kitchen-sharing arrangements in shared halls before arrival and check the university's cost-of-living guidance for current grocery and eating-out estimates.
Safety and support image

Hertfordshire is a relatively low-crime county compared with inner London; both campuses have 24/7 on-site security, CCTV and staffed hall reception. The university runs a Student Wellbeing service and publishes student-safety guidance on personal safety, harassment reporting and out-of-hours support. International students should still take standard UK precautions around late-night travel and securing valuables in shared housing. International students get pre-arrival guidance and an International Student Advice team handling visa, ATAS and CAS queries. On arrival, students complete registration, can enrol with a local GP and join Students' Union subject and international societies. The university's international FAQ and pre-arrival guide cover banking and settling-in logistics; academic tutors and wellbeing services are open to all students.
