How long is the University of Pretoria MBChB?

The University of Pretoria’s 2026 and 2027 MBChB programme records state a minimum duration of six years of full-time study.

What is the 2027 MBChB application deadline?

UP lists 30 June 2026 as the closing date for both South African and international MBChB applications for the 2027 programme page.

What school subjects are required for MBChB?

For applicants using the South African NSC or IEB route, the published minimums are achievement level 5 in English, 6 in Mathematics, 5 in Physical Sciences and an APS of 35. UP also publishes an international undergraduate prospectus for qualifications not issued by Umalusi.

Can every international applicant apply for MBChB?

No. UP’s published MBChB information says applications from citizens of countries that have their own medical schools are not considered. Eligible applicants with non-Umalusi school-leaving qualifications use the international undergraduate prospectus route.

What is the estimated MBChB tuition for 2026?

UP publishes estimated tuition by year of study for South African and SADC citizens: R89,000–98,000 in year 1, R90,000–96,000 in year 2, R84,000–90,000 in year 3, R90,000–100,000 in year 4, R104,000–110,000 in year 5 and R88,630–144,000 in year 6. These are estimates rather than a single fixed programme total.

How is clinical learning included in the programme?

The programme record describes theoretical blocks, special activities and clinical rotations. The Faculty yearbook also includes clinical-skills assessment and student-intern rotations in the MBChB curriculum.

Is MBChB taught in English?

The World Directory of Medical Schools records English for the University of Pretoria School of Medicine. UP’s MBChB admission requirements also assess English Home Language or English First Additional Language for the NSC/IEB route.

What professional steps follow the MBChB degree in South Africa?

UP states that students register with the HPCSA as medical students after first-year admission. Graduates then register as interns, complete the required internship and community service before private practice in South Africa; professional rules apply separately from university admission.

What support is published for registered students?

UP Student Affairs lists counselling, health and disability support. Student Health Services publishes primary healthcare, medical advice, referrals, dietary advice and confidential HIV counselling for registered students; some external or specialised services can carry a cost.
