Is the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Medicine MD programme direct-entry after high school, or does it require a prior degree?

It is direct-entry. The Faculty describes it as an integrated first-and-second-cycle programme -- a single continuous six-year, 360-ECTS track entered straight from secondary school, with no separate bachelor's degree required.

How long does the Medical Studies in English programme take?

Six years across 12 semesters, carrying 360 ECTS credits and 5,600 total contact hours, leading to the professional title of Medical Doctor.

Is the Faculty internationally listed?

Yes. It is listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools (School ID F0000895) as currently operational, with its English-medium track recorded separately since 2015, and holds institutional accreditation from Bosnia and Herzegovina's HEA agency through 2029.

What is the tuition fee for the English-medium MD programme?

As published on the Faculty's own site, tuition is 12,000 BAM per academic year (Bosnia's convertible mark, pegged at 1 EUR = 1.95583 BAM), plus a one-time 100 BAM application fee. Confirm the current figure directly with the Faculty before budgeting.

When do applications open for international students?

The University of Sarajevo typically announces its annual Call for Applications in mid-June. For the most recently confirmed cycle, the Faculty-specific application window ran late August to early September, with structured interviews shortly after; exact dates reset every year, so check the live announcements section of the Faculty's site.

Is there a written entrance exam?

No separate written entrance exam is required for the English-medium track; instead, candidates go through a structured interview (English proficiency, communication skills, motivation, general impression) alongside secondary-school academic ranking.

Do Indian students need NEET to study here?

Bosnia's own admission process does not require NEET. However, per India's National Medical Commission, Indian citizens and OCIs pursuing a primary medical qualification abroad since May 2018 must qualify NEET-UG, whose result serves as the mandatory Eligibility Certificate -- a separate India-side compliance step.

Where do students do clinical rotations?

Clinical training is organized at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS), the Faculty's designated teaching-base hospital, under a formal cooperation agreement.

How international is the student body?

The Faculty reports hosting students from 17 countries in its English-medium programme, including the USA, Canada, India, Brazil, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UK and Germany; an exact international headcount or percentage is not published.

Is student accommodation available?

The University itself does not run dormitories, but the public JU 'Studentski Centar' Sarajevo operates two large student residences open to University of Sarajevo students via an annual competitive application; current pricing for foreign fee-paying medical students should be confirmed directly with the Student Center.
