Glasgow's Southside districts of Pollokshields and Govanhill, a short bus ride from campus, carry the city's main South Asian and halal grocery and restaurant options, including large Asian supermarkets and the United Cash and Carry wholesale store on Paisley Road West. Glasgow's overall recorded crime rate runs above the Scotland-wide average on independent trackers, though university safety guidance directs students toward the main campus and student-residence areas, which see routine Campus Security patrols and CCTV coverage. Strathclyde's International Student Support team and Police Scotland's community contacts are both available to campus-based students. New international students get pre-arrival guidance from Strathclyde's International Student Support team, covering visa/BRP collection, banking and insurance.
