Northeast Normal University

University overview

Northeast Normal University began in 1946, moved to Changchun in 1949 and took its current name in 1950. It combines a teacher-education tradition with research across humanities, psychology, languages and natural sciences. The 2027 catalogue verifies 30 English academic master’s offerings across two campuses; a separate restricted MOFCOM programme is documented for 2026. Current scholarship recruitment and self-funded admission have different evidence and conditions.

The university operates at Renmin St. and Jingyue St. campuses, with programme locations specified in the current catalogue. Its accommodation page describes single and double rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, shared kitchens and laundry facilities. Academic work and daily routines should be planned around the exact teaching school and campus. A university-wide dormitory description does not guarantee a particular room allocation.

Student living

Campus environment

Accommodation

International student housing is described as single or double rooms with private bathrooms and shared kitchen/laundry facilities. The older general 2026–2027 admission guide quotes a single room at CNY 40 per day; confirm the applicable 2027 rate and allocation. Current CSC Type B awards cover on-campus accommodation without guaranteeing a single room. The separate 2026 MOFCOM brochure specifies a Main Campus single room for its selected cohort. Daily prices are not annualised.

Food & daily living

Communal kitchens in international accommodation provide a self-catering option alongside local meal choices. The older general admission guide estimates meals at CNY 1,000–1,500 per month; it is a planning estimate, not a current meal contract. Confirm kitchen access, food preferences and personal dietary needs with the international office. A particular dietary certification or a guaranteed meal plan is not established by the reviewed sources.

Safety

Current CSC applications require a medical examination and recent non-criminal record, and awards include comprehensive medical insurance. Original documents are checked at registration. Confirm emergency contacts, insurance procedures and residence instructions before travel. MOFCOM has separate detailed health conditions, which are not transferred to ordinary master’s admission.

Student support

The International Students Office provides official admission and document contacts. Current scholarship notices explain assessment, nomination, email communication and registration. Supervisor profiles help with research matching; prior master’s acceptance letters are optional in the current CSC process. Students monitor their own email and personally submit the required applications.

Frequently asked questions

Which programmes are verified in English?

The 2027 international graduate catalogue lists 30 English academic master’s offerings, including Ecology at two different schools and campuses. A separate 2026 MOFCOM brochure proves a restricted two-year English Educational Management and Policy route. All 25 entries in the 2027 undergraduate catalogue are Chinese taught; no English undergraduate route is packaged.

Are all 2027 English routes open to self-funded applicants?

That is not established by the reviewed notices. The current 2027 catalogue is linked from the new CSC notices. Four English subjects are new compared with the general 2026 catalogue: Foreign Language Education, Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies, Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics, and Material Physics and Chemistry. Their currently verified recruitment scope is scholarship-linked; obtain an exact self-funded admission notice before relying on that route.

How long is study, and what award is documented?

The 30 current English catalogue entries are three-year full-time academic master’s programmes. The separate MOFCOM route is two years and explicitly confers Master of Science in Education. Older psychology guidance describes a master’s degree in Education, while the World History profile’s MA wording concerns its IHAC ancient-civilisation context. No named MSc/MA award is inferred across every current catalogue entry.

Which campus will I study at?

The current catalogue assigns each offering to Renmin St. Campus or Jingyue St. Campus. Language programmes and the School of Environment entries are at Jingyue; the other listed English academic subjects are at Renmin. Ecology at Life Science and Ecology at Environment remain separate offerings. The MOFCOM brochure describes Main Campus accommodation near Renmin Street/Ziyou Road. Follow the exact programme and offer rather than assuming one university-wide teaching site.

What degree and age conditions apply?

For current CSC Type B master’s applications, hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and be 35 or younger with strong academic records and good health/conduct. Type A instead says under 35. The MOFCOM2026 route is for developing-country professionals under 45 with a bachelor’s degree, at least three years of related work and government/embassy recommendation. These age rules belong to different routes.

What English evidence is accepted?

Current CSC master’s guidance accepts TOEFL 80/IELTS 6.0 or above, English as a native or official language, or a degree obtained through English-medium instruction. Submit the relevant evidence. The separate MOFCOM brochure uses comparable English levels and also lists an official proficiency letter or university telephone assessment. Chinese-language requirements for Chinese programmes are not transferred to the English offerings.

Do master’s applicants need prior supervisor acceptance?

The current CSC notices explicitly make a conditional acceptance letter optional for master’s applicants. A research proposal remains required: at least 1,000 Chinese characters or 1,000 English words, plus two signed recommendations from professors or associate professors. The compulsory prospective-supervisor signature on a proposal applies to doctoral applicants in those notices.

How and when do I apply for CSC Type B?

The applicant must personally apply in both the CSC and NENU systems, selecting Type B and agency 10200. The deadline is 28 February 2027 (Beijing time). NENU reviews and interviews applicants, nominates candidates and sends pre-admission instructions; nominated candidates must upload the required notice within the email deadline. Final selection is by CSC. The policy says agency-submitted applications disqualify the applicant from this scholarship.

What scholarship coverage is described?

Current Type B covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, CNY 3,000 monthly master’s allowance and comprehensive medical insurance, subject to selection and annual review. Type A is applied for through the home-country dispatching authority and may be full or partial; its deadlines differ. The programme catalogue flags scholarship availability, not an award guarantee. Presidential selection is competitive and its exact terms require the relevant notice. Silk Road flags apply only to the exact marked subjects.

What tuition and living costs are published?

The 2027 catalogue quotes CNY 18,600 annually for the listed humanities/social-science English master’s subjects and CNY 23,000 for the listed natural-science subjects. Each programme retains its exact native quote. The older general 2026–2027 guide quotes CNY 800 non-refundable application, CNY 800 annual insurance, CNY 40/day single-room housing and CNY 1,000–1,500 monthly meals. These older general charges are not asserted as confirmed 2027 CSC charges, and daily housing is not annualised.

How does the separate MOFCOM route differ?

Its latest 2026 brochure targets experienced developing-country education officials, managers and senior professionals, with government recommendation and embassy verification. It describes two years, up to 25 places, English study and Master of Science in Education. Funding includes study costs, single-room housing, CNY 36,000 annual living allowance, CNY 3,000 settlement, insurance and specified international flights; year 2 funding requires annual evaluation. The 6 June 2026 deadline is historical. Next recruitment and an ambiguous clause about applicants already in China/other government scholarships remain unverified.

What documents need special attention?

Current CSC documents include passport valid beyond September 2027, notarised degrees and stamped transcripts from undergraduate level onward, language evidence, research proposal, two recommendations, a six-month medical form and normally recent six-month non-criminal record. Expected graduates must obtain the required degree before September 2027. All originals are checked at registration. MOFCOM has its own work-unit/government letters and a public-hospital health form issued within one month before application.

Who provides official support, and what is daily accommodation like?

The International Students Office, Division of International Cooperation and Exchange lists admission@nenu.edu.cn and iso@nenu.edu.cn, telephone +86 431 85099754/85685722, Room 624, Administration Building, 5268 Renmin Street, Changchun 130024. Its accommodation page describes single/double rooms, private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, communal kitchens and laundry. Confirm room allocation and personal needs. Students Traffic can help compare routes and organise questions; applicants must follow the direct-submission rules of their chosen scheme.
