Hostel fees include mess catering, so food is bundled into the room rate rather than billed separately. The Green Pearl International Hostel runs a multi-cuisine dining facility serving Thai, Chinese and Indian food. On campus there is a food court and several shops beyond the university canteen. Fridges, washing machines, microwaves, room heaters, irons, air coolers and kettles are barred from every hostel, so in-room self-catering is not an option.
The campus houses the SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre with over 1,500 beds and the SRM Global Hospital, both open in an emergency, and SRMIST recommends taking out medical insurance. An anti-ragging committee, an equal opportunity cell and a grievance redressal mechanism are standing committees. A student may move into an allotted hostel room only once admission formalities, the student visa and immigration are complete.
The Office of International Relations works from the second floor of the Central Library Building, west wing. It handles Form C residential registration on campus for foreign nationals and OCI card holders, arranges Chennai airport transfers on prior request at the student's cost, issues visa letters, bonafide certificates and Aadhaar applications, and runs separate student-services and helpdesk mailboxes.
