University overview

Wenzhou-Kean University is a China–U.S. joint university in Wenzhou, approved by China’s Ministry of Education in 2014. Its undergraduate teaching is in English, with exact Kean/WKU degree plans across business, sciences, liberal arts and design. Compare named options, portfolio requirements and credential evaluations carefully; undergraduate fees are annual, while the graduate guide quotes whole-programme tuition.

The university’s campus is in Li’ao, Wenzhou, with its published address at 88 Daxue Road, Ouhai District. Four academic colleges cover business, science and technology, liberal arts, and architecture/design; graduate education also includes the College of Education. International UG teaching is in English, while graduation includes prescribed Chinese-language and culture credits. Management options have separate named degree plans, so applicants should select the exact option. A U.S. exchange opportunity is subject to separate arrangements and should not be treated as compulsory study abroad or a guaranteed entitlement.

Accommodation

Published 2027 undergraduate accommodation is CNY 8,000–10,000 per academic year, based on ten months. The university FAQ describes several residence configurations, including double rooms, single-bedroom options and suites with differing bathroom arrangements; allocation and charges should be confirmed for the offer. Water and electricity are additional. Undergraduate insurance is CNY 1,000/year. A CNY 20,000 non-refundable deposit is applied toward tuition at enrolment, and the CNY 400 application charge is payable upon admission; both apply to scholarship recipients. Graduate tuition totals do not establish a graduate housing price, so graduate applicants should request a separate accommodation quotation.

Food & daily living

The reviewed admission guides do not establish halal certification, a vegetarian meal plan or allergen controls. Explain any religious, medical or other dietary needs to the international office and confirm arrangements for the actual residence and campus. The FAQ mentions shared residence amenities including kitchens, but the room allocation and cooking/appliance rules should be checked before travel. Meals and utilities are separate from the quoted tuition and housing.

Safety

UG applicants need a recent government non-criminal certificate and must meet the published physical/mental-health and conduct conditions. Those under 18 on 15 August 2027 need a legal guardian in China and the prescribed forms. These are admission checks, not a campus safety rating. The FAQ describes residence security amenities; use current university arrival, insurance and residence instructions for the admitted cohort.

Student support

Submit UG applications at intlapply.wku.edu.cn. Graduate applicants complete both WKU and Kean application steps and monitor the WKU system. Credential evaluation depends on the previous institution’s location. Clarify document or mode requirements before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Is WKU the same campus as Kean University in the U.S.?

No. Wenzhou-Kean University is the China–U.S. joint institution in Wenzhou, Zhejiang. Kean’s U.S. campus has a separate address in Union, New Jersey. Use the WKU offer and campus instructions; an award or exchange opportunity does not establish U.S. immigration or work rights.

Are the undergraduate programmes taught in English?

Yes. The current international FAQ confirms English delivery and says there are no independent Chinese-taught bachelor programmes for international students. Prescribed Chinese-language and Chinese-culture credits are still graduation requirements.

What qualifications and options should I compare?

Preserve the exact named degree, not just its subject. Mathematical Sciences is a B.A.; Graphic and Interior Design are B.F.A.; Industrial Design is B.I.D.; Architectural Studies is B.A. Management has three separately named B.S. options with their own degree plans. No Honours label is added.

Who can apply for international UG admission?

Applicants must be non-Chinese foreign-passport holders, have high-school completion or the permitted pre-graduation certificate, and meet health, conduct and nationality requirements. Relevant former-Chinese/Chinese-parent cases face the exact published residence and nationality checks for the 2027 cycle.

What English test scores are required?

UG and the central graduate guide list IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79/PBT 550, or Duolingo 105. TOEFL exams after 21 January 2026 use a minimum new-scale total of 4.0. Scores must be within two years. Waiver eligibility needs official evidence and admissions approval; graduate official reports go directly to Kean.

Are SAT, ACT, A-Level, AP, IB or UEC scores compulsory?

The 2027 UG FAQ describes these listed examinations as test-optional. Results can still affect scholarship consideration or later credit-transfer review. This should not be read as a blanket CSCA exemption or a waiver of English evidence; follow any route-specific instruction.

What if I will be under 18?

For Fall 2027, the live checklist uses 15 August 2027 as the age-check date. Under-18 applicants need a legal guardian in China, guardian identity evidence and the prescribed forms uploaded through the application portal.

Do Architecture and Design applicants need portfolios?

Yes. Architectural Studies requires five specified drawing tasks in one A4-landscape PDF, including a short statement; individual images/drawings are capped at 5 MB. Design requires 10–12 creative works with the checklist’s format limits. The live-linked checklist says upload through the portal; do not follow the separate older mockup’s email instructions.

What is the 2027 UG tuition and deposit?

Published tuition is CNY 88,000 per academic year, subject to approved rates. Housing is CNY 8,000–10,000 for ten months and insurance CNY 1,000/year. The CNY 400 application charge is payable upon admission; a non-refundable CNY 20,000 deposit is applied toward tuition at enrolment, including for scholarship recipients.

Are graduate fees annual?

The guide quotes tuition for the whole programme’s minimum required credits, with bridge/prerequisite and voluntarily selected additional courses charged separately. Its table is labelled Fall 2026 despite the 2027 heading. The listed CNY 130,000 totals for Educational Administration, Computer Science and Psychology are not annual fees or confirmed 2027 personal quotations.

What evaluations do master applicants need?

Applicants need an accredited bachelor’s degree and official transcripts, normally GPA 3.0, with lower GPAs considered on overall strength. Mainland-China credentials require CHSI/CSSD evaluation; credentials from institutions outside the U.S. and mainland China require NACES course-by-course evaluation. Programme-specific documents and an interview may also apply.

When are applications due?

The current sources identify Fall 2027 and a published deadline of 15 June 2027. Graduate admissions are rolling. Check the correct portal for opening dates and any programme-specific changes; the graduate tariff table’s older year label needs separate fee confirmation.

Are scholarships automatic?

No. The 2027 UG page lists 60% or 30% tuition reductions with specific evidence and annual renewal requirements for up to four years. Transfers are excluded from freshmen scholarships, and English-official-language applicants cannot qualify through English-test scores alone. Meeting a threshold does not guarantee an award.
